  • Help needed in planning my GQ trip!

Hi! At last, the leaves are applied, the packing list ready and accommodation booked - waiting eagerly for next week, when I start my solo GQ trip on February 12th on my Ninja 250R. Since I have not been on many of the roads I will soon be riding my bike on, I need help from my friends here on how are the road conditions for the routes mentioned below. This will help me calculate the riding hours and plan my days. Any feedback should be based on personal experiences not older than a couple of months old, since roads can change quite a bit in that time. If you don't have an idea about each complete stretch, feedback on parts of that road will also be appreciated!

    So I need feedback on:

    Chennai-Vijaywada road (NH5)

    Vijaywada-Bhubaneshwar road (NH5)

    Bhubaneshwar-Calcutta (NH5)

    Calcutta-Gaya ( NH2)

    Gaya-Patna (NH83, non-GQ)

    Gaya-Kanpur (NH2)

    Kanpur-Delhi (NH2)

    Delhi-Jalandhar( NH1, non-GQ)

    Delhi-Ahmedabad (NH8)

Ahmedabad-Mumbai (NH8, also need feedback on Ahm-Vadodora for bikes)

    Mumbai-Pune (NH4)

    Pune-Bangalore (NH4)

    Many thanks in advance!

delhi kanpur is ok.. just gotta be careful with people crossing the highway suddenly, so you gotta keep your speed in check.

I did delhi-jalandhar in November - Highway is fine all the way once you exit Delhi which takes the only long time. With the elevated expressway at panipat, its a breeze...

Rajpura and further the highway is good.. widening was going on at that time.. so maybe you might encounter some of that along the way..

And you are invited to my place in gurgaon... better come and stay with me..

My offerings to the gods of speed -

            - Yamaha RXZ 5 speed

Thanks for the tip! I will keep that in mind... Actually I was planning to do Kanpur-Jalandhar in a single stretch. Enter Delhi from Mathura road and then keep going on the ring road towards GT Karnal byepass road.

Hey congrats buddy bluevolt, enjoy the trip & I'm close to NH4 & NH5. I like to help you when you're in Chennai. So pls let me know your plan & I can plan appropriately to meet you too.

So I'm assuming you know the way from Bangalore to Chennai & hope you take the Hosur road which is crystal clear smooth all way upto Chennai.

Chennai to Vijayawada is no doubt, very good (personal experience only upto 100 Kms), I can certainly find that out for you who has done a recent trip. From what I've heard is that roads in Orissa are not that good, anyway, let me not confuse you, I'll find that out for you again.

Also if you're interested, I can guide you through some better & shorter routes connecting NH4 & NH5 (via NH205) rather than the conventional way of entering into the city & joining the NH5 route.

                Good Luck man; Enjoy yourself!!!

Thank you my friend - yes, I will be going via Hosur to Chennai and probably finish the trip to Chennai (from Bangalore) in 3.5 - 4 hours. I would have loved to meet you, but my first day stop is Vijaywada so I would have to keep going! I would probably pass Chennai around 8.30-9.00 in the morning and take the Chennai Byepass road which then leads to NH5 toward Vijaywada.

It would be great if you could find out (after checking) about the roads in Orissa. My second day stop is Bhubaneshwar after Vijaywada and that is 800km, so I need to know whether I need to scale down my daily riding distance. (and also change my hotel booking in Bhubaneshwar).

                  Cheers

But are you targetting any specific hours to make a record or something? I'm afraid not, as I see you've planned from 12 to 28 Feb 2010, so you have lot of time. I'm not saying this to interrupt your plan, but just a word to say "relax you've time & you've friends".

I'll gather as much info on the road conditions from Vijayawada to Bhubaneshwar.

the road from gaya to patna is good except when you are approx ~100kms(prior to taking a left turn for patna at simri-bakhtiarpur) away from patna, mad traffic and not very wide roads(the roads are broader prior to the left turn)
