hey guys planning WEEK LONG TRIP TO SPITI from delhi in mid july.Though a week might be few days too much to cover spiti but i want this trip to be more of a lazy nature discovery trip than a rush and sprinting trip from delhi to spiti and back, i want it to a easy laid back trip where i get enough i get enough time to discover the surrounding places and discover nature .My plans as of now are as follows:

Tentaive date of leaving 18 july 10
    day 1
    Delhi--- shimla ---- narkanda----rekong peo
edit (1)is it possible to reach reach nako if i strecth a bit more,(2) is there a way if i can cover sarahan too and is it worth it

    day 2
reckong peo---- nako ----tabo-----kaza (are there any places around these areas off the route that are worth visiting,)

    day 3
stay in kaza and explore the surrounding areas

    day 4
kaza----kunzum la---- gramphoo----mannali (is there a possibility if i can visit chandrataal too the same day)

    day 5
manali---kasol (plan to stay in kasol and trek to malana )

    day 6
    kasol---kullu---aut---jalori pass---narkanda

    day 7
    narkanda--shimla ---delhi

    queries:

am i stretching too much or are my plans achievable,

are there any places i am missing

others things i need to keep in mind like monsoon rains, landslides etc . etc

your suggestion are not jus welcome they are mandatory
    thanks
    anuj

          Answers to your query below:

Day 1) No, it is not possible to reach Nako from Dekhi in a single day. Delhi - Peo takes a good 16 hours! Nako will be 4 more. That makes it 20. Yes, Sarahan is worth it but only cover it if you ahve a day to spare.

Day 2) Geyu (mummy fame), Dhankar, Pin Valley etc

Day 4) Though it will be a bit hectic but yes, you can visit chandrataal on the same day.

@Anuj: True. Sarahan would be the ideal place to travel to during the first day. Alternatively, from Sarahan the next day, you can try and visit Sangla-Chitkul too, if you have some extra time on you. Chitkul is really beautiful; the enroute views are magnificent too!

google up vivek sharma's itinerary. IIRC.

he's done both a hurricane ride of spiti in 4 days, and a leisurely one (comparatively) in 9 days. That should help.

Well i would not mind your company, but just keep in mind theres always a chance of our riding style not matching or a frequency mis-match ,otherwise i am good and u can come and lets meet up for a g2g and talk about it in detail
beacuse even before talking about all those protective gears what u would need the most is some GOOD RIDING EXPERIENCE, hope u have been there and done that, so catch u @ g2g real soon

In all probability, I would be looking forward for this thread. Either you do it solo or get patched with Kunjal, (in case both of yours schedules work out) it's gonna be a fantastic experience as you seem to be interested on buying a leisure trip. My heartiest wishes are with you and Kunjal too (consider it more of a bribe though no bribe...lol) as I will be bugging you once you are back safe and sound. Happy biking!

i might not have time for both chitkul and sarahan and therefore can only choose to visit one of these places which one would it be ?? what would u recommend halting @sarahan or riding directly to chitkul on day 1.. i ll be leaving from karnal @ 3:00 am on day one so hoefully i can reach chitkul b4 its too dark ?

Something that started as an idea of a dream ride to himachal is on the verge of being real…
Something that started is a unorganized plan in bits and pieces is organized and on paper now
Something I have been wanting to do for a while will be done in a while from now(read 10 days )

So finally its real , organized , on paper and I am impatiently waiting to do the ride any passionate tourer here on this forum will put on his 10 rides to do before I die list.
Guys I am riding to spiti , but it’s a 8 days ride which is more than just getting spitified.
When I started planning this trip I wanted it to be more of a laid back trip and thought 8 days would be more than enough to do spiti and back to delhi….BUT with so many other beautiful places in the neighbourhood I could not resist but to make it more of a marathon ride to spiti and adjacent places just to experience that scenic nirvana even if it was @ cost of a butt and a back ache .

Here is the final plan (courtesy kurtrules aka vaibhav aka himachal expert aka very helpful and a generous person)

                              Day 0:
Finish work @ office and leave delhi @ 6: 00 pm for karnal
Reach karnal by 9:00 sleep in karnal @ my cousins place whose suppose to accompany me for this trip.

                              Day 1:
Leave from karnal @ 3:00 AM

                              Karnal-------kalka--------shimla----narkanda---sarahan (370kms)

Sarahan is located at an average elevation of 2,313 m (7,589ft),and will be my first stop.

                              Day 2:

Leave from sarahan early morning around 7:00 am

                              Sarahan---------chitkul (230kms)

Chitkul is the last inhabited village near the Indo-Tibet border; and located @ banks of Bapsa river
Chitkul was added to my itinerary thanks to ARYAN
This will be my second stop

                              Day 3:

                              Leave chitkul around 7:00 am

                              Chitkul-------puh--------nako---------tabo--------kaza (200kms)

Via geyu and if possible pin valley

Kaza is the commercial capital of spiti valley and known for its monasteries and Buddhist culture

                              Day 4: rest day

Stay in kaza and explore neighboring places like kibber, key gette

                              Day 5:

                              Kaza----kunzumla---gramphoo---manali---kasol (250)

If possible might do chadertaal and stop @ manali instead of kasol

Day 6A:being optimistic , that I will reach kasol on day 5

Stay in kasol , try out some good international food available there thanks to a host of foreigners and back packers who visit this place
Maybe a few beers @ banks of parvati river
If physical state of my body allows me I might trek to Malana or else go to manikaran

Day 6B: if I am not able to reach kasol on day 5 and stay @ manali, then
Leave manali early morning reach kasol
                              Check into a hotel
Sit and relax at banks of the river parvati and eat some good food

                              Day 7:

                              Kasol-------aut-----------shoja-----------jalori pass-----narkanda----shimla(250kms)

This route has been suggested by kurt aka vaibhav , instead of taking the conventional manali----bilaspur one
I think it ll be worth it for its scenic beauty and hopefully less traffic, and therefore don’t mind going a few more kms.

                              Day 8: 

                              Shimla ----delhi

I don’t feel like coming back but I have to because delhi is where I stay and work !!

Ps: though everything has been sorted and planned , but can anybody help me with the road condition on these route, as lately I have heard it been raining cats and dogs especially on the way to jammu and near patiala
