    Advice about changing tyres related to kms driven - Yamaha Fascino

    My sister gave me her Yamaha Fascino. I need to know whether to change tyres of this bike.

    The Front tyre:
    1. never changed since the beginning - Driven 40k kms.
    2. Puncture shop guys say it's fine and can use it for more kms. But I can see little cracks in the middle of the tyre. There was never a puncture on this tyre.
    3. This is the tyre model - https://www.mrftyres.com/products/tyres/193 - you can see gap in the middle and that's where I've seen the cracks.
    The Rear Tyre:
    1. Changed after 20k kms - model is https://www.mrftyres.com/products/tyres/192
    2. Driven around 20k kms with this tyre. Never had any puncture
    3. Puncture shop guys say it's great and no need to change.

    I can see the front tyre has a little shaky feeling and decided to change it next week.
    Interestingly, along with many puncture shop guys, service center people too didn't say anything about tyre change. They said it's 'okay'.

    But is it okay to change single tyre or do we need to change both tyres at once ?

      Change the cracked front tyre. Cracks are usually a sign that the tyre is starting to age and breakdown, there is a chance of a catastrophic failure if you continue to use it.

      Puncture shop guys are far from tyre experts.

        Rightly said. The age of the tyre also plays a big roll. Cracks are definitely a sign of aging and can lead to failure. It is better to change the tyre and even when purchasing new tyre please check the manufacturing date of the tyre as tyres have a shelf life period and is not recommended to use them after that period.

            4 year old tyres are developing hairline cracks. Not reached the TWI yet. Is it safe to use to use?

              Like already quoted in the previous posts. Crack is the sign of tyre deterioration and break down. TWI is not the only index to changing the tyre. The structure integrity will be lost if crack are been developed.

              Please the tyre ASAP and it is also not safe to keep riding them.
