  • Air Pump / Foot Pump / Floor Pump / Compressor Thread

    Dear Friends,
I tried searching in the forum for a good Foot Pump / Floor Pump which can be used for pumping air in my bike & cycle, but did not find any suitable posts so posting this thread. The pump should have a pressure guage which displays the pressure while filling air.

I am planning to buy a foot pump or a floor pump, but confused as to whether a foot pump is more powerful or a floor pump for filing air in bike tyres.

In online they have footpumps from 200 rs to 1400 rs so very confused as to which one to buy the local stores has footpump at 400-700 Rs and hand pumps from 200 onwards.

If anyone of you is using foot pumps please mention the brand name of the pump so that I can go to local stores and check out the brand and test it and buy. In online even though the price is cheap I feel it wont make sense to order and if it doesnt work again replacements hassles will be there. I am in Chennai so if you can recommend any good branded pump available in Chennai shops it would be great.

Some good branded floor pumps I found in flipkart they are much costlier than foot pump but they are branded, so if they can fill air in bike tyre also it would be great.

    EG:

Btwin FLP 5000 Bicycle Pump - Buy Btwin FLP 5000 Bicycle Pump Online at Best Prices in India - Cycling | Flipkart.com

In the local stores I saw Payal Foot Pump which cost Rs.650/- and when checked online found its indian co, and having the ISO etc requirements. So shall i go for 650/- rs pump or a normal 350 rs pump?

I will use this pump only for filling air in cycle tires, as for bike tyres while filling fuel I get them inflated for free , give 2 rs tip,and if someday the bike gets punctured at home will use it to fill so that can drive to nearest puncture shop,.

So if you are using any foot / floor pump please put your views

    Approved!

I guess Decathlon has an option, suited for both bikes and motorbikes. And it costs some 100 odd bucks. In the hindsight, it may just be a pressure gauge, but please do the right research for a hassle free air filling experience.

I use Coido twin foot pump, to fill air in my bike, which I got from ebay. My personal opinion is that foot pumps are easier to operate compare to hand pumps as you dont have to bend and put that much pressure using hands.

Get chinese hand pump for 100 rupees .
I have one 2-3 years old and does its job perfectly.
Even used for filling air in tractor and trolley tires.

Thank you friends for your replies. Here is the Update:

Bought BSA Mach Cycle to cycle and keep fit, the store from where I bought had the brand new Payal Foot Pump (Rajkot Brand) and it costed Rs.550/- . It was a big cycle store. Bought that Pump, its a very powerful pump and fills from 0-65Psi in my BSA Mach City within 1minute.

It looks good, but, if you are buying it for a bike or car then better go with a twin tube pump; It will take less effort for you to fill up the tyres.

                  Tyre inflator and pressure gauge

                  Hi,

I need some suggestions regarding a good tyre inflator and a pressure gauge. Doesn't really have to be electronic, a manual one would do just fine. I'm more concerned about the accuracy of the pressure gauge. The closest pump is 2kms away.

I've come across ResQTech inflator, but the gauge was a bit off as per the reviews.

Q: Can we use a normal football pump to inflate bike tyres? What about the valve|nozzle bit?

Yes, the resqtech gauge is not accurate but this device is used to get you out of a sticky situation and that's about it. I have one and used it in an emergency where it worked perfectly well.
Stick to getting the tire inflated at the petrol pump (or get the foot pump) and get something like this Michelin MN-4203 Digital Tyre Gauge (Blue): Amazon.in: Car & Motorbike

Am just assuming the michelin one would be more 'accurate' compared to other generic ones that are available. And remember that tire pressure will vary between a cold and warm tire (i.e. after riding a couple of km)

Goodyear 12V Digital Auto Cut-Off Car Air Inflator (DEV-RCPA20A):Amazon

Michelin 12264 Digital Micro Tyre Inflator (Black):Amazon

Found these 2 options as well..

The Michelin doesn't have auto cut off. Comes with a USB power point though. My bike already has a USB charger

The Good year comes with auto cut off. Needs a 12V cigarette lighter socket. If I can install a cigarette lighter socket in my bike will my battery support it?
FYI: I ride an AS200. No kick start

I've been using a Richtek tyre pump since the last year and a half, and it works well, filling up air in both my car and bike without a problem. It plugs into my Suzuki Gixxer, and hasn't affected the battery.

RICHTEK Tyre Inflator 12V DC Air Compressor for Car & Bike Compact Tyre Inflator | eBay

The gauge isn't accurate, so I've been using a digital gauge from Aeoss.
Aeoss Tyre Tire Gauge Digital LCD Display with LED lighting effect PSI & Bar Pressure: Amazon.in: Car & Motorbike

I think it's accurate, but I can't be sure as I have nothing to benchmark it with. But it's consistent, so I can be sure I'm filling the same amount of air each time.
I gave my old gauge away, and have bought a different model from Aeoss (which I haven't test as of yet)-

yep! that is the plan. I was planning to buy the Slime tyre inflator though as we have one in office, but that was costing me almost thrice the amount I am paying for this one.
