  • Is it time for new tires for the Apache 150 or tubeless alloys

Hi everyone. This is my first time on the xBhp forums and I need your help for tyres for my Apache 150. Currently my Apache is running MRF Nylogrip Zapper FS 90/90-17 49P TT and MRF Nylogrip Zapper Vyde 100/90-18 56P at the rear also TT. I have attached pics for both of them and if you zoom in you can see the spider cracks and cuts. Its getting difficult to get tube tyres as shops tell me that they only have TL tyres especially the chaps from Michelin and MRF in Pune. I really wanted to try Masseter but even they said its TL only. The Bridgestone shop had Ceat Zoom TL tyres and their mech claimed that it can be installed on a TT rim and I wonder if its true? The MRF tyres have done approx. 10-12k kms without any punctures and been through our fantastic Indian roads high speed bumps, crazy speed breakers and small trips on NH4.
Also, do have a look at the TWI (Tyre Wear Indicator) as well. What I wanted to know is?

    1) Is it time for change or just let it run for some more time?
    2) Is it possible to install a TL tyre on a TT rim?
    3) Can I change the TT rim of Apache 150 to TL rim from maybe Apache RTR 160 or any other bike without issues?

I am looking for tyres with the best grip in dry and wet conditions.

    Thanks,
    K17

    Query Approved
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

      Hi,

You can use tubeless tyres on the existing rim, only the valve needs to change and maybe a little bit of grinding and filing around the valve area on the rim.

I used to run Michelin Pilot Sporty 90/90 17 TL up front on my RTR and now have put the 80/90 17 TL Masseter tyre. Sits beautifully with no issues!

At the rear i am using Zapper Q 110/90 -18 , which I am thinking of going back to 100/90-18 Masseter tubeless.

Please do not change your rims as they are perfectly capable of TL tyres.

PS:I have an Apache 150 in urgent need of new tyres. MRF Masseter it is, however please do give your opinion of Zapper Vyde as you have used it.

Thanks for replying Kriss. I am going for the Masseters both front and back and which RTR do you have the 160-180? Regarding the Zapper Vyde, I have never pushed the tyre as I don't believe in cornering (Moto GP crashes) but with the Masseter will try to put my knee down, a bit . My MRF's had bad grip on gravel and wet roads especially the front tyre and once the bike almost lost balance and nearly fell. Wonder how Masseter will do in wet weather???

Re: Is it time for new tires for the Apache 150 or tubeless alloys

          Hi there,

Sry if i m late in replying but i has same bike(Apache 150) for past 11 years & in year 2010 i put Ceat Vertigo 100/90/18 TL tyre on the back & its still running strong. At times i felt its slipping in wet conditions but getting a TL was anyday better than TT so go ahead & pick TL for the rear (front is still TT MRF).
Also check out Sirac Sports TL 100/90/18. People vouch for that tyre for grip.

          @sai_ace
Im thinking about changing it and i was thinking about 110/90/18 but seeing ur comment, cant make out whats wrong with 110?
