  • Tyre suggestions for KTM D390 for Spti trip

    Hi guys

I'll be travelling to Spiti valley later this month and I'm looking for advise on both the front and rear tires.Mine's a new bike, its just run 3200km,but I don't suppose the stock Metzelers would be any good in those conditions!I have Michelin Sirac and Vee Rubber in mind but have got no idea about the dealers here in Pune.Looking forward to some useful into!

    Thanks

    Query Approved

I know of people who used some Birla tyre model and others who used the CEAT Vertigos.

Vee Rubber is also used by quite a few people riding the KTMs at the Raid.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Hi, I have done Spiti circuit on stock metz without any issues, so be rest assured, you can go with stock tyres.
My tyres were 5k kms old when I did spiti circuit without any punctures or tyre cuts throughout the journey.

Tell me why do you want to change to some other tyre? If you are travelling from Pune it is better you stick to stock metz as it is fairly new.
Hardly 500-700 kms is around off road conditions rest its all tarmac and you don't want to spend 5k rupees for 500-700 kms of off roads in Spiti.
You can even checkout my Video log series in the Tlog section for the road conditions and water crossings.

If travelling by metz, just be a little gentle on slush and loose soil on the road. rest all can be easily managed by the Metz.

Hi, I did Pune - Ladakh - Pune last year, and based on my experience I would definitely suggest going for off road biased tyre's as it gives you much more grip, though you will end up sacrificing top end, on good roads. Additionally you will have to install spacers to give more clearance to the front mudguard because of the higher profile tyre.

I still have the tyres which I used for my ride (did 3000 kms). They are a combination of Michelin (Front) and Continental (rear). For more details, please check out my thread.

If you are interested I can sell the tyres to you at a good price.

          Regards
          Ronald
