  • Big bike tires

There's a chance I may be headed back to Incredible India. Since I ride a Yamaha Super Tenere, tires are going to be an issue. I'm pretty sure that the usual "big brands" are available, and even if I have to special-order, I can at least get tires in the correct size. However, correct size isn't the same as "the right tire". Since the SuperTen is an "adventure" bike, it only becomes really effective when it has good mixed-use tires mounted, and unfortunately most of the "big brands" don't make good mixed-use tires. Metzeler has some ok adventure tires, and Continental makes one of the real classics. However, there are a couple of other brands out of Europe that really sit at the top of the pile for good on-road/off-road rubber.

So, does anyone know if it's possible to get Mitas or Heidenau tires in India? And barring that, does anyone know if the full range of Continental products is available?

    Tire Query approved.

To be honest, barring continental, the names of the tire brands you mentioned, i am hearing their names for the first time.

Yeah, me too. Both manufacturers mainly build dual-sport and off-road tires, plus scooter and small bike tires. Mitas also builds agricultural and bicycle tires. Fortunately or unfortunately, they build some of the better tires for mixed-use riding i.e. pavement and unimproved roads or dirt (not true motocross). They'd be good for much of the riding in India, since even in the cities there are often areas where the roads are in poor condition or are still dirt tracks.

If we have any tire distributors on the board, it might be beneficial to the Indian riding communtiy if we could connect those distributors to these manufacturers. Right now, the closest official Mitas distributors are in Sri Lanka and Pakistan, and Heidenau has distributors in Malaysia.
