  • Which tyre should I use for my Duke 390

Hello everyone, I have a DUKE 390 bought in 2014. I finished 22,000km on it recently and the rear tyre has almost worn out. I am using MRF Revz C for the rear and Metzeler for the front.

I wanted to know which rear tyre would be good and also I wanted to know which is better

    Apollo ALPHA H1 150/60ZR17 66W (https://www.amazon.in/Apollo-60ZR17-...tive&sr=1-1)or

    MRF REVZ-C1 150/60 R17 66S (https://www.amazon.in/MRF-REVZ-C1-Tu..._t3_B07LDKP8HZ).

And if I did buy the Apollo one, will the ABS work?

    Thank You.

ABS would work with any tyre on your bike, there's no need to worry, until and unless something gets wrong with the ABS.

Apolo Alpha is a new entrant in the market with good reviews, you can go with it.
      Peace

Thank you so much for replying. I read a review on amazon that the ABS apparently stopped working. So I though I'd ask to see if it happened with anyone else.

I reside at Pondicherry. A native of Trichy though. I got my Apollo Actizip Series for my Avenger for 3100 from a wholesaler in Pondicherry. I can give you his number (though I have no business interests with him). Kindly call and check the prices. Compare them with prices in Bangalore and strike a deal. Please feel free to use my name (I am Girish)

Vinayak (Apollo tyre wholesaler) of Amirtham Tyres, Pondicherry - 786708717

Take a look at Michelin Road 5, it’s on the expensive side - a pair cost me 13k in March 2020 - but it’s good.

You can also check the Pirelli Diablo Rosso II for KTM Duke 390. Again this should be on the expensive side. But do check them out too.

Re: Which tyre should I use for my Duke 390

The last time I checked, the stock tyres on KTM RC390s came with Metzeler tyres which are soft compound tyres and I am guessing the Duke 390 comes with the same? The Metzelers become almost useless by the time you ride 3000 Kms on them but they offer phenomenal road grip on tarmac while the wet grip is manageable.

Better than those tyres are Pirelli Diablo Rosso II tyres which offer superior dry and wet road grip. I use one of those as my Yamaha FZ16's front tyre and I love its performance (including while braking)! Its price is definitely on the higher side but it is worth the extra life and performance it offers.

A close second to this would be the Michelin Pilot Street radial but it may not be as good as a Metzeler or a Pirelli for an RC390 or Duke 390.

Everybody's experience varies with tyres in different scenarios and experiences. What I have written is based on my experiences

BTW, go for higher speed rated tyres (aim at 200 Km/h or slightly more).
