  • Gixxer tyre suggestions

Hi, I have Gixxer (both front and rear disc). 4 year old. Around 24,000 km on the odo.

First of all, is it good time to change tyres (rear or both)?

I haven’t changed the tyres yet. Want suggestions for best available options. Most important concern fir me is grip/safety and then cost.

I have gone through several threads, Quora, and many websites, learned a lot of new things about tyres but still clueless about the decision. Every thread/website suggest a different tyre.

In case, you don’t know, bike comes with following tyres (https://www.mrftyres.com/products/tyres)

    Front: MRF Zapper-FX (100/80-17)
    Rear: MRF REVZ M (140/60-R17 63P)

I wanted to buy a wider tyre (for example REVZ C1 150/60-R17) if that doesn’t cause any harm and fit smoothly or else stock configuration (brand can be different). Please suggest.

*Pardon me, if photos are not clear.

    Thank you.

You can fit 150 section tyre without any problem .You can go with Michelin pilot street radial. It has good grip and long life as compared with MRF.

Thank you Chaitanya for your views. Michelin looks good but people say it’s dry grip is not good, which is needed most of times.

I’m confused between Stock MRF tyre, Michelin pilot street and Alpha H1 but not limited to.
Also, do I need to change both tyre at once or is it okay to change rear tyre only ?

I’ll share the fresh pics of tyres, so you can tell if the change is needed or not?

        Thank you.

Hi Sandy.I had KTM Duke 200 which were shodded with MRF revz. They are not good enough even for power of Duke 200.Don't go for MRFs.Now I have KTM Duke 390.I am using Pilot street radial on it for almost 15000km.They are quite good.I have done some crazy fast speeds on those tyres. Also these tyres are very good on cornering. You could drag your knee on those .But they are not as sticky as Metzlers in rains.I don't have idea about Alpha 1.

Hi Chaitanya, I’m not a racing guy. Mostly I use in Delhi city with once a month I go for a 250-300 km home ride (sometimes rough patches like gravel but not long..only few hundred metres or less).

But once in 4-6 months, I try to go for a hilly area tour like Uttarakhand or Himachal.

That’s all my need and bike Gixxer 150 double disc. Maybe now, you can suggest me in better way.

              Thank you.

It's my pleasure brother.I suggest you to go for Michelin. They last very long.Even after 15k of rigorous riding they provide good amount of grip..I think I could ride minimum 10k more on those.
