Yes, CAD softwares have 7 degrees of precision compared to modeling software, which has only 3. The tolerance levels are much higher. This is a fact we take note whenever we have a product animation to do (We need to convert CAD generated NURBS to polys for this).

Maya or 3Dmax... which one is user friendly and which is more resource hungry ?
I prefer Maya. Max is more user friendly, but Maya got its advantages. Rest, Synn had already answered.

They both have different approaches towards modeling. If you like to do a lot of NURBS based work, Maya is better. On the other hand, Max's poly and spline tools are extensive and it also has some sophisticated lighting tools.

Both are equally resource hungry, Maya a bit less so (Unless you try Maya hair, fluids etc.).

Go through a few Youtube vids to get a feel of both UIs and see which suits you more.

try to smoothen the polygons....if ur facing problems with the mesh getting too smooth..use bevel option in maya...would give u a better result....well for modelling nothing better than zbrush.
