    Hi Kiran,

I am riding my MH bike all over NCR region for last 6 months. Haven't faced any issues till date. I brought NOC along with me but didn't bothered to get a new number here as it was a costly affair

@Naman: My problem is I'm planning to tour a lot. Although the NCR cpos will not notice, the rest will. In fact, my first ride will be to Agra. It's been my dream to see the Taj Mahal.

I'm going ahead and bringing the bike. Let's see what to do next.

@Kiran: Well if you plan to stay here for long or sell off the bike here then think of getting into all this NOC and change in Registration number hassle.

For paying tax in Delhi you need a Delhi address proof, if you reside in Noida(UP) you need to pay taxes here.

and rest assured you can freely ride in this whole region(not just NCR, but whole of North India) WITHOUT worrying about taxes. No one actually bothers to check this here. I took my Van to Delhi(currently commuting Noida-Delhi-Noida, 60 kms daily) Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh in last 5 years and no even once anyone asked me about the road tax being paid or not(BR registered vechicle and its not one off case, Aryan da has ML registred Pulsar 180).

But yeah cops DO check papers and are very specifically concerned about PUC as the challan amount is 1000 bucks and fetches maximum bribe.

This local taxes enforcement stuff is headache of the local RTO who rarely come out to check pvt vehicles, commercial vehicles keep them too busy.

For the sake of peace of mind make sure that you have a petrol bill/receipt from TN which is not more than 6 months old and tell them that you have just come. Keep other papers in order btw..

As far as I know, if u pay the local taxes, there is no need of changing the registration number of the vehicle. Changing the registration number will come into effect if u plan to sell the bike. In that case, u'll need to get the NOC from Chennai RTO. If not, then just pay the local taxes and keep the receipt with you. That's it.

Kiran, a NOC is only needed when you plan to re-register the bike. Otherwise paying the Road tax as applicable is sufficient. Before that as suggested by setuniket, just keep a petrol bill receipt :P (you can get one posted often by any chennai xbhp member )

6k seems a lot high though. but it'd be hassle free too and i think they'd drop the bike at your doorstep.

Hey will see you in Noida soon then i am coming to delhi on the 30th with my bike

Paying local road tax requires NOC from the RTO where the bike is registered, after that number change can be done. NOC is required for any change in the RC of the vechicle.

@kirosh_03: You should send your bike through train and try avoiding packers and movers(any company). Those guys will always tell there would be no harm to your bike but I have seen a lot of cases where bikes were badly damaged.
In Zma the most delicate thing is the fairing of the bike . You can remove the fairing and take it along with you in the same train through which you will take your bike to Delhi. I did the same thing when I took my Zma from Delhi to Kankanadi(Mangalore).
Regarding the road tax issue I am also stuck with similar problem as I have brought my bike to Chennai and my bike has UP registration.

                          I second Surbhit's thoughts.
Moreover, both of us have recently brought our bikes from Delhi to Chennai in train.
Just get it packed nicely and leave the rest to Lalu's employees

@all: Apologies for my late reply; I'm hardly getting time to check xBhp. I need to blame my new project.

As I stated earlier, the bike is in transit; thru Agarwal Packer and Movers. They have assured me that the bike will be transported safely. The bike will be reaching Delhi on Saturday.

As for the NOC, I haven't taken any. I have the set of other original papers. I have no intention (for the time being) of selling the bike or staying in delhi for long. Will take the next course of action once I land in any kind of trouble.

To Delhi on bike! All the best, Sudeep! Just ping me when you are here. We'll ride with the Delhi boys.

Thanks, Surbhit and Muks! From generating higher revenues to providing better food, the Indian Railways have earned a commendable name in recent years. As for my case, I had no one at home to take my bike to the RS. Hence the decision for packers and movers.
