@MODS: Isn't there a Universal thread for the registration/road tax related queries? Can we move this thread there??

If you plan on using the bike in Bangalore for a period of 2-3 years and then head back to TN, you need to do the following :-

    1. Be in possession of RC, Updated Insurance, Update PUC.
    2. You do NOT need NOC. (NOC is only required when you want to re-register the vehicle in another state)
    3. After moving to KA, you need to pay temporary road tax for the time period of your stay in Bangalore. You don't have to pay Life Time Road Tax again in KA.

That is all, have the above mentioned 4 documents with you at all times. TN bikes are something the cops look out for here in Bangalore with a very keen eye!

I've been riding a TN bike in Bangalore for 10 months now!

      Praful,
PUC - is it the emission certificate ?
Cops let you go if you have RC, insurance, pollution and karnataka tax token or do they demand something more

PUC = Pollution Under Control, its a certificate!

Cops catch coz they want chai money. So they will look for excuses to nail you for some reason or the other. They can even go ahead to the extent of cooking up new rules.

A cop once caught me and told me that we are supposed to pay road tax the moment we enter a state, so I asked him what do I do if I am on a multi state road trip. His answer was that I should pay road tax at every state.

PS: I have'nt paid the road tax and neither am I doing so till the Taxation sturcture is unified and not state centric!

That is what you are supposed to do when you are in a commercial vehicle with a yellow number plate. I am sure his bike does not have a yellow number plate and is not for commercial use.

Well cops are insatiable in their desire for some Gandhi's! So they resort to all sorts of creative rules!

Very true !! Once they stop you, they will not let you till they got some money out of u. They will cook something or the other!!
No offence, but in this regard I found the Bangalore cops the worst.
I've ridden in Kolkatta, Delhi, Cochin and a few other cities as well, but Bangy cops are so irrational and biased. They'll turn a blind eye on a helmet less rider, in persuit of a rich bakra if they smell a chance to pounce on him !!

Anyways, enuff of rant. Is there any place from where we can download the list of laws ?? Maybe Penal Code Article numbers and a clear list of whats illegal and whats not !!
Maybe then we can throw it at the cops face and tell them that we kno wat the deal is !!

I remember cupl of years ago, Overdrive had given a booklet with the rules. I used to carry it then. But have lost it now !!
Kawasaki Ninja : Because lazy sunday afternoons should be despatched at 160 kmph!!!
Hyosung Aquila : Because sometimes you need to look cool while riding at 40 kmph and you can do that only on a cruiser !!!

@prafultripathy: I used my AP bike in Bangalore for about 7 months. I had not taken an NOC, neither did I pay the Road Tax there, since I was not clear about the rules.
Also, I know that when we tour, we have to pay a nominal charge when we enter a State at the Toll Booth, which allows us to be there for a week or so.
So my question is: Does this mean that for any period longer than a week we need to pay road tax?

I am not aware of the exact tenure for which you are allowed to remain in the state. Also every state has a different set rules, eg: some might allow you to remain for 45 days and some 15.

15 days would be the bare minimum for which one should be free of any hassles. But you need to have some sort of proof that can suitably prove your time period of stay in the state. Prolly fuel slips can be used, but who give fuel slips with registration numbers these days!!!

Additionally, you do not have to pay any charge to enter a state in your private vehicle. The toll you pay is for that particular road that you are using, could be the NH or a pvt. road. The toll paid is in no way related to road tax that you are supposed to pay!!

^^Yes 15 days to 30 days is the accepted norm! Fuel slips are sometimes accepted, sometimes not. If u have transported ur vehicle, the transport reciept can be used for the said period. But then instead of all the above papers, the best paper that works and is alays accepted anywhere anytime is a paper with a smiling Gandhiji on it! Saves u troubles, hassles, time etc....

                              Bike Transport in India

Hi guys, I just wanted to know the approximate charges of transporting a bike from one city to another. For example, transporting a bike from Mumbai to Delhi. If anyone has a rough idea of how much it would cost and who are the people (Railways, Gati, etc.) who do it, it would be much appreciated.
