  • [xBhp Universal Thread]: Motorcycle Chain & Maintainence

    Hello All

I thought of starting a new thread to discuss all & everything about Drive Chains for our dear Motorcycles. I feel this is one topic in Motorcycle world which is less spoken & discussed about (apart from sproketting)

So considering the fact that Bajaj Pulsar is one of the largest selling performance motorcycle in India which is the BEST Drive Chain option available for the bike?

P.S: I would request all to share their knowledge & discuss about their experiences, problems, solutions & suggestions on Chains.

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

If the thread is started, I want to share my experience, Its about my hunk after to complete almost more than 10k, I washed my bike myself, polished and then thought about that as I washed it water and surf would have removed all the lubricant from the chain, as it is not opened and covered but still, So I got the lubricant from shop and lubricated the chain nicely and then went for a evening drive and feel there is lots of vibration which I was feeling before is gone, even I never lubricated my bike chain till that day and completed 10K, this thing never come into my mind..

So I got a point that whever we face vibration problem we also have to check our bike chain and lubricant and can somebody let me the interval of KM for putting lubricant on covered and open chain...

you should always lubricate your chain properly at regular intervals, prefereably at the time of servicing, which is approx. every 2000-3000 kms for most of the bikes. the lubrication intervals also depend on weather conditions and other factors like how hard you ride. but atleast you should lubricate it at every servicing.

if you can do it yourself, its better, coz then your can lubricate once in between servicing also.

similarly cleaning of chain is equally important. when to clean- generally depends on how dirty your chain is.

for lubricating a chain use SAE90 oil or whatever is recommended by your bike manufacturer or specialized sprays etc.

do not use "used engine oil".

the chain and sprocket are a wera and tear part, so more you care, longer it will last.

@ All i would only like to conclude that do not lube the chain say after completion of X KMS, lube it when you see the chain having no lube.

Rub your finger over the chain and see it if its dried up or not, a ball park figure can be 500kms, but yes my bike chain requires lubing after 300-400kms because most of my riding is on the highway and speeds of 100kmph atleast.

            So conclusion

Lube it when required and not by days or kms.
