  • [xBhp Universal Thread]: Black Smoke at 9k+ RPM range<Pulsar 150 UG4>

    Hi,

Recently I have noticed one thing that my engine oil is getting burned within 600-700kms and I am getting thick black smoke at 9k+ rpm in my pulsar 150 UG4, it clocked around 16k+ km.
Bajaj Sevice centre guys are not sure about the reason, they are asking me to do a piston/crank repair/change and a head work.

can somebody put some light on this issue. As to what exactly I can do.

p.s The engine light goes off sometimes, I don't know the reason.

    Thanks,
    Debayan

AFAIK The P150 redline is at 9k RPM. IF you ride at/above redline, the red light blinks. Nothing wrong with that bit.

Coming to the black smoke, it happens when the bike is running a rich mixture. What FE are you getting? Check for airflow problems. Confirm that there is no blockage to airflow in the airbox and the air-filter is clean. Also check the Spark plugs.

Which engine oil were you using? When running excessively rich mixture, the oil sometimes gets consumed so that explains the oil-loss. At 16k on the odo, its very very unlikely that you have some engine related work required.
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.
