I haven't had that much time to test it out, to tell the truth. I had it fitted day before last, and then came down with a bad cold yesterday. But I did ride about five-ten km with it on, and the power has definitely improved. I found that the bike was going faster than before for the same amount of throttle, and on more than one occasion, had to brake hard because the bike was going faster than I thought. Pickup has also improved, and the bike is very responsive even at low revs. I'll keep updating.
This sig made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs. And if you don't know what that means, you're not old enough to. :D

It's not a simple job. First, tell me what you mean by 'make my own'. Will you be building it yourself, or having it built at some workshop?

Either way, here are some pics. I got them from various sites thru Google image search. These will help you understand what is inside a free flow exhaust.

In the pics, you'll see that the packing material is steel wool, surrounded by glass wool. The combination will absorb most of the high frequencies made by the engine. However, if you live in a high humidity area, the steel wool will corrode in a couple of weeks. Even if you get stainless steel wool, it's the same. Unless of course, you can get high quality stainless steel wool from someplace. In that case, use glass wool alone.

            Hope this helps.

                  Thanks for the kudos.

Here's the gist of what I learnt after research on the net.

The best FFE for a four stroke engine would be a straight pipe, if you're gonna be using it on the track. The idea is to have the least pressure possible. Low pressure = high exhaust velocity, which helps pull out the burnt gases out of the combustion chamber faster. Also is known as scavenging.

But not many of us will be using it on the track all the time, or at more than half to three-quarters throttle. In that situation, back-pressure is known to actually improve the torque produced. This is the reason why many bikes have a resonating chamber at a tuned length from the exhaust port (ExhausTEC).

The length of the exhaust also affects the torque produced by the engine. Generally, a long header pipe will produce more torque at low-mid rpm, while a short exhaust will provide gains at higher rpms. This can be seen in Yamaha's Race kit, which uses a short end-can that starts right below the rider footrests. The kit improves the top-end of the bikes.

If you have access to a good engineering workshop, it's not that hard to get an exhaust made. The only trouble is that a first time DIY-er would not be able to avoid the pitfalls and find solutions to various issues that WILL crop up any time you attempt to modify something stock. Like when my cousin decide to install a K&N on his Pulsar after ripping out the airbox, only to find that the side panel could not be fitted back without it! Or when I tried to clear-coat my bike's fuel tank with disastrous results!

                    Megacycle

Had a stock exhaust which used to give a good old suzuki buzz and inaudible sometimes...

couple of months back installed a megacycle aftermarket exhaust for $400 + $65 labour...

checked the bhp on dyno which maxed out at 102 and after installing the new exhaust system it went upto 117...
                    and it sounds awesome

but, the mileage went down by couple of KMs

what about the diameter of the header pipe.... what difference will it make to have a header pipe of a narrower diameter or a larger diameter???

to design an exhaust for a 4 stroke is very complicated..data needed is huge, even using formula given in reputed books like Performance Tuning in Theory & Practice Graham Bell a lot of trial and error goes into it. But many racer tuners have gone in for a megaphone exhaust.. anybody needing any information on how to tune their DIY exhaust gotta have the above mentioned book..(its torrented) its in detail and will need a technical bent of mind and engineering calculators..

                                Unicorn exhaust note

Does removing the catcon on the uni result in a deeper and a bit louder exhaust note?Any complications or power delivery issues involved??
