  • [xBhp Universal Thread]: Being Biker !!

BIKER ! A monicker that we together share, a comraderie, its a way of brotherhood, its a way of venting ourselves, liberating ourselves, its freedom, its a lifestyle. Being so since a few years ive (and you've too) experienced a lot and seen a lot. We've been to places we've never been, explored, rode through the highs and lows, made ourselves what we are today, few turned out to be explorers, stunters, tourers, track racers etc. Its no new in stating the fact how elated and live you and we feel on a motorcycle. We've got people, fellow bikers, brothers who make us complete and then big movies like WhyWeRide etc are what reflects us and potrays us and our lifestyle in the world vividly. Its a great trait or a great venture that we've set on too. And we love it.

But, Being a Biker afterall isnt a trait what everyone carries. It isnt easy for everyone to carry. Be it financial boundations or relationship restrictions. We fight them hard and we would always take out time and set out on an excursion or a roadtrip. That makes us feel free and help us being what we are. But thats not what is in actual for a few of Bikers who wish they could what we do today and we wish to do more. Biking !!

I wont get too philosophical or art-ish or poetic in terms of expressing myself here. So ill keep it simple. Carrying a tag of Biker or merely bearing that monicker 'today' isn't within everyone's reach even if they wish to. Being a Biker needs to have a bike, money, tons of expenses relating to that. Probably not easy for everyone. I and even you might have got people around in mere denims and black tees with helmet and shoes on on a hard earned midiocre motorcycle riding in a group they have always wished to. Every sunday i see fellow Bikers with their stacked up hard saved pennies filling up their fuel tanks just to ride together. I see Bikers who fought their Mom and Dads refusing to wander every sunday on bikes rather than being at home with their families. I see Bikers with 12000 permonth salary owning a Duke200 on EMIs with mere sports shoes helmet and gloves. And then I see Bikers who only wish they could do so. But theyre not Bikers if they dont ride eh!?

For me Being Biker is easy for us who are financially stable. Spotting a Biker today is easy when that biker is on a Yamaha R1 with a nice textile/leather jacket and a big brand helmet. But we never bump into a guy/Biker who owns a splendor or a 125cc motorcycle who takes his motorcycling passionately gets imvolved with motorcycling groups and rides with them. We should admit the fact that when we think of entering a motorcycle group we keep in mind the fact that we need to have a good motorcycle that is potent enough to keep up with the pace and the terrains. We should admit the fact that a good powerful motorcycle and a rider all geared up is more looked upon and heared forward to and the same guy bears that Biker tag more boldly than a hard earning guy in denims and tees on a hard earned motorcycle ever will. We should admit the fact that Being Biker in our lives has been possible because we've got money to spent on it and somewhere down the line if we run out of the same we will be stripped of the Tag-Biker. The world and you yourself wont look at you the same way. We should at last admid the fact that Being Biker is more than something it usually takes. Its not easy carrying the trait and the tag Biker.

Probably the term Biker needs to be looked upon in deep. Probably Being Biker isnt what it used to be for few people. Its way hard and its way more passionate now. I wish a Biker isnt judged by his sportsbike, or his clothes or makeover or "his riding skills even". I wish Biker may be judged by how he carries his trait and the tag and how humane and how full of character and passionate he/she is. A Biker doesnt always needs to be on his big-bike.He might be one of the every the second unknown guy you might meet randomly walking. He might not be having big beared or a tattoo or a nice vented mesh jacket, but a hard earned motorcycle and his will and passion towards Being Biker.

Next time i hop on my motorcycle I (at least I...I hope you too) will keep in mind the fact that the thing underneath ny ass doesnt defines me as a biker. Next time i hit a corner or a trail I will keep in mind the fact that the riding skills doesnt defines me as a biker. Next time i judge a person as a Biker (what we all bikers do everytime we meet another biker) Ill keep in mind the fact that if hes got a "character and a heart" strong enough to bear the tag the monicker Biker and what all it takes as Being Biker.

    Approved!

    Loved reading through it.

However, we do have "real bikers" who never worry about displacement and roam across states proving that there's something more than the machines which matter!
Off late, I have seen more posers than actual bikers. Getting a random pic clicked somewhere doesn't translate into one being a biker (me included). Its the attitude that matters.
    Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

      @Ankitvile well written my friend.
Biker is a character. It's more than the machine, the attire, the group, the skills. It is 'THE HEART'.
This reminds me of my favorite line from 'batman begins' (slightly modified) "
It's not what I have underneath... but what I do... that defines me"

        Re: Being Biker !!

Yesterday I attended the Xbhp collectors ride(Kolkata chapter). R15s were in numbers, Hayabusas, R1s, Bandits, GX series, Hyosungs, Dukes were there as well. I was at first feeling too inferior to them as all I had was my SS125(16000 kms. in 21 months). I come from a lower-middle class family and that was what I could've afforded. Apart from a Splendor, perhaps my bike had the least no. of ccs and bhps! A few eyebrows were raised. But, as time began to fly, I found all the bikers I had interacted with was not bothered about the category of my bike. Discussions were centered around biking in general.
For me, the spirit of biking is what that matters. In this forum itself, there are many members who have done remarkable things in 100-125 ccs/scooters. One needs to have the spirit, urge and most importantly love for biking. My neighbor had bought a Karizma 7 months back and his odometer reading is 290 km.s - 40 km.s/month! For me, it's an insult to the beautiful machine. Everyone is a rider, but not everyone is a biker!!
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

          Re: Being Biker !!

Biker, the very words gives creeps to my family because of the experience from the films(I guess). Time and again I tried to teach them that bikers are not about show off , stunts or hooligans. It is a state of mind. The freedom you feel when you are in sync with you machine. The freedom of experiencing your actual freedom from the world of stress and strains. The freedom of living your life the way you want it atleast for some time.

          Cheers

            Re: Being Biker !!

Yesterday was sunday...usually I head out on rides planned before. I had it planned yesterday too. Got ready morning at 7:00 and was almost set to go...and my Mom refused right then and there stating a simple reason that this Biking is too dangerous and its hard for me to keep up with you going on long dangerous excursions and trips every now and then....i called up and refused my friends to come.
I sat all day at home switching channels on TV. It was shit boring. Its then when i realised how much hard its to carry a trait like Biking.
I wonder now that today...i have money and thus i am a biker, or if i had no money and could be a biket then too. Its hard with family restrictions and financial boundations that sometimes we have to keep ourselves off fr biking. But thats one day that tears us from the insides, how about those who never get a chance. Probably we dont look at this dark side...and probably thats what gives rise to our ego of biking and the ego of the fact that we are a biker. But we are a Biker because we have those facilities and previlages, and thus we should be respecting this rather than building an ego. Because there are tons of people out there (Not so called Bikers) but potent enough to do what we bikers do. But they couldnt because somewhere down line they dont have those privilages to carry this asset.

              Re: Being Biker !!

The Moment the engine fires up,
              Instant connections are made.
Twist the throttle and slowly the frown turns into a smile,
Every movement returns a response filled with fun
Every mile munched, every tarmac burnt....
YOU just cant get enough of it, Dont You?????

For me being a biker is the relationship i share with my bike. It brings me hope, confidence and a sense of brotherhood. It fills me with a sense of connectivity with this world. It brings out wild imaginations, makes you dream big and yet keeps you very much grounded to this world. There might be so many definitions for a Biker. I believe everybody has their own version of being a biker. For me, i am heads and toes in love with my bike. I can't let it go at any cost. It might not be the best bike in this world but it quenches my thirst, fills my soul with a feeling i can never comprehend. It's a lifetime commitment i share and i can be proud of the same. I cant share my bike with anyone, hate even the pillion riders(wife included). People sometimes tag me crazy but only i understand the sanity of what i do. There is a lot i can say which makes no sense whatsoever. Yet proud of the fact that all this is due to the biker inside which keeps hiding until the engine starts!!!!!
Everybody has their own version of TRUTH!!!!!!
