  • Review of MRF zapper on a Cbr250r

This is the review of mrf zapper-s (140/70 r17) for cbr250r.

So it all started when My rear contigo started showing end of its life at about 14k on odo. Although i am not into burnouts and all so i was expecting a bit more from it.

But somehow i feel that there was some defect in that tyre coz during this span i faced more than 25 punctures on it whereas contigo on the front was still intact with zero puncture.
Also i was very much disappointed by its grip and there was significant difference in the quality of front and rear tyre.
So i was eagerly waiting to get rid of my rear contigo.

My priority was stock size with good grip.
After a lot of r&d on internet and forums i shortlisted michelin pilot street radial which was costing me around 5500 INR in my city.. Initially i was very curious about this tyre but after enquiring with retailer i came to know that there is no warranty on it since it was an imported product. (dont know if he was trying to fool me but that was hard to believe)

Also some of my friends advised me not to go for michelin because road conditions in my city are very poor and possibility of tyre getting damaged much before its expected life span cant be ruled out. [emoji16]

All this forced me to rethink about it and finally i shortlisted ceat zoom and mrf zapper.. Both were costing roughly same.
After doing some manual inspection i decided mrf for following reasons

    1. There wasn't much info and review available about ceat.

    2. On checking out manually it felt on heavier side

    3. There was very inconsistency in prices among various retailers

    4. There was much more peer support for MRF

    5. Now the company itself is stock fitting MRFs on new batches of CBR

The mrf zapper s 140/70 17 was quoted around 3200 inr but after some negotiation with the dealer its costed me 3000 inr including fitting.

Now comes the most important part of this long post

    PERFORMANCE

So All those who are coming from continentals you are going to find a peace in it. The day i installed it i did a lot of twisties and zigzag and was enjoying it like never before.. Probably due to its rounder profile.

All in all i can say that the dry grip of these tyres is quite good but i have noticed that they need some warmup for around a km before you start going hard on them.

    WET GRIP

Although i haven't tested much of its wet grip but it is just ok. You need to be careful.. Quite similar to that of continentals.

    CONS

Now comes the scary part. These zappers are nightmare if you ever encounter slush. There is absolutely zero grip.
I have been a victim of such near misses two times and somehow managed to escape it. Even slightest of mud along with water makes this tyre go nuts.. You get the feeling as if you are on a treadless tyre.
It was the only time when i missed my continental badly. It reminded me of those posts on forum where some fellow members were absolutely ok with stock contis

    VERDICT

If you are a daily commuter with occasional highway trips like me and mostly run on tarmac you can blindly go for it mainly because of its nice dry grip and cost effectiveness. (i mean to say its not that costly and has decent life).
It won't disappoint you in that matter.

But if you do some kind of offroading or kind of adventure tourer look for something else.
Probably a Pirelli or michelin is a better choice.
Also you can check out ceat zoom.

And lastly its my appeal to fellow bikers to Ride safely and responsibly. Always remember your limits.
    (:
    *peace out*
