Edit 1 - Found oil and oil deposits on thread and ring, with center electrode showing no such signs, black sooty deposit, also noticing smoke at early morning start with no issues later. I feel my valve stem seals have failed. I am also noticing oil leak from cylinder head. I need oil topup at 500km this time, surprising. Any experts that would help me into a more detailed study of this ? Thanks.
What type of smoke plays a big role. If it's water vaporish that's normal, if you feel the smoke is smog like, smelly and like a two stroke, we potentially have problems.
Smoke during early morning startup after the engine has warmed up meaning either one of your valve stem oil is leaking. If you have constant smoke during the operation of the bike, irrespective of the rev range, we might have a failure of piston rings which causes oil from lubrication to enter to combustion chamber and bring out as smoke. Or a combination of both worn piston rings and a leaky valve oil seal.

    need to change them,
please suggest which should i go for except ngk iridium.
Both the Pulsar 220 and the Avenger 220 use the same spark plugs, at 20k reading your plug, it's in a good condition. Though I see it's slightly white due to the camera angle, but for the most part, if it's light white to brownish rusty color it means the combustion is very much optimal and the engine is a healthly state.

The cost of the stock plugs are close to 95 to 100 rupees per plug, compared that to NGK it's recommended to keep changing the stock spark plugs at set intervals, as that is both economical when you consider the plug prices of NGK. Though I would personally recommend you to get the NGK over Champion, the running costs don't make much a difference.

    Right side plug:

NGK CR8E normal (normal) costs upwards of 150
    NGK CR8EGP (G-power) 300 +
    NGK CR8E IX (Iridum) 600 +

    Left side plug:

    NGK CR9E
    NGK CR9EGP
    NGK CR9EGP IX

    Cheers!

Checked Plug after 7K and 15 month after last install. Cleaned and re gapped. BTW the look on the thread is due to oil i applied last time, Cleaned the thread too. Fuel quality is big issue here.

            • Does this spark plug look like it needs replacement? (photos attached)

              Hi,

I'm attaching photos of spark plug electrodes. Does this look like this should be replaced?

What percentage of its (reasonable) life do you think it'd have done?

If you were in my place, would you replace it?

They are as good as new, just check the gap according to the user manual and use.
Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handlebars to the saddle.

Yes, I completely agree, yet the authorized service centre guys from Whitefield KTM replaced it. I thought i'd let them do it and keep the piece so I can investigate in case my judgment was wrong.

I'm quite pissed lately with Whitefield KTM. They began as quite economical, but lately they've been screwing people by charging labour separately, as well as labour for each and every part. (on top of replacing perfectly fine parts)

Almost all bikes nowwdays are tuned lean from the factory. The tip should be of rustic brownish with tinges of black, that's a perfect combustion. Unless you see oil residue and or thick flakes of carbon on the plug tip, your plug is totally fine.

                      Cheers!

                          Hello everyone,

My Apache Rtr 200 has done 9k kms and I am considering a spark plug change, preferably to twin electode one. Any recommendations on the same will be helpful.

                          Thanks

Stick with the single head spark plug. I have experimented the double head spark plug, and results where pathetic. I went with the Bosch single head spark plug UR3DC, costed 80rs, and it even performing better than the stock spark plug (UR4KE, costing 130rs).

                            • Can i use Iridium Spark Plugs with regular ones?

                              Hi all,

I have a pulsar 200AS from June 2015 which has done around 8800Km. Its running on stock champion spark plugs.
The spark plugs have to be changed now. The bike needs three plugs. I was thinking of getting the NGK ones.

                              The iridium ones are:
                              Centre plug: LKAR8AI-9 ~Rs.250
                              2 Side Plugs: CPR8EAIX ~Rs.650 each
The total cost comes to around Rs.1500 which i think is too much.

                              The regular ones are
                              Centre plug: LKAR8A-9 not available
                              2 Side Plugs: CPR8EA-9 ~Rs.100 each

The centre one is not available anywhere!

So my question is, can i use the iridium one as centre plug and the regular ones as the side plugs? Would that mess with the ignition or does it not matter and can combine regular and iridium ones?

My Dec 2016 Yamaha Ray ZR was running rough so checked the Spark plug. It was OEM NGK LR6E which was worn. Searched NGK India website and suggested CR6E, so I got CR6HGP Platinum Spark plug from Amazon and now the bike runs like new. Purchased for ₹ 210 including shipping.
