  • Pulsar NS200

    Hi xBhpains,

I have owned this bike for more than year and a half and clocked above 17k kilometers. So, I felt this is the right time to give out an ownership review about the bike.

So, let me just rewind back to 2017 October, on how I booked Pulsar NS 200. So, I had saved some money, around 30k, and I was looking forward to getting a new bike for my daily commute. So I started to investigate bike reviews and read ownership threads on xBhp and various other sites.

After a lot of market research and speaking with my friends, I narrowed down to scooters as they were mainly used for commuting in India. So one day I met a friend of a friend and we were having a chat regarding bikes and cars. So I asked him for opinion on the scooters that I had narrowed down to buy (i.e. Aprilia SR150, Access 125 and Vespa 125). He asked me about my interest in touring and I had replied to him that I am pretty much interested but I don’t have the budget to get bike like RE, Duke, RS200 or D400. So, my friend convinced me by saying its an investment and I could use the bike for both commute and travel. He gave me few options like the new launch of Yamaha FZ-25, TVS Apache RTR 200, Gixxer or SF and NS200.

Since I was convinced by my friend, I had investigated these bikes and rates were around 1 lac to 1.3 lacs. So, I started with the Suzuki Gixxer. The bike was smooth, nimble and more of a comfy vehicle. It has good refinement and at higher rpm, the bike had lost its power. The FZ-25 felt so much refined, grunty engine and the seating was comfy. It's the same with the RTR 200 but was lacking on top end. RTR 200’s vibrations were very high and at last I test rode the new NS 200 BS IV variant it was like not as good as compared to the FZ-25 in the terms of comfort and exhaust note, but once you hit he top end the engine was ready even powerful and the exhaust note was of next level.

So I went ahead and booked the NS 200 because it was more powerful (there is no replacement for displacement with fZ-25). The interest rate was lower compared to other financiers. The bike was VFM on the market with Duke 200’s engine and the logo Bajaj which literally means the brand’s durability, pretty pocket friendly rate and running cost is low.

After booking we had some procedures and since the bike was financed the process and delivery took a little bit longer. I had to sign and I felt very proud owning my first bike. So, I paid the amount, 53000/-, as down payment and had a loan tenure for 12 months and the EMI was like 6067/- per month and got a cash back of one-month EMI on the sixth month during the tenure.

Coming to the main part of the thread the ownership review:
As I’ve already wrote that my bike has clocked 17k kms. So, I will be dropping down the pros and cons according to me:

        Performance & Fuel consumptions:
        Pros:
The engine is a 199cc carburetor engine with 23 PS of power. The engine is good for both city and touring purpose the engine doesn’t strain at higher rpms and you can ride for a longer time and also the I have feel the heating issues are far better. The fuel consumption is also good, I get somewhere around 35-38 kmpl in city and 35-40 in the highway.
        Cons:
The engine when at high speeds decelerated and accelerated again I feel a dump in power I have even informed the issue to the ASC but still the problem is not rectified.
The fuel consumption on hill station is pretty high.

        Comfort & Grips:
        Pros
The tyres are seems to be good for city rides.
The comfort level is okay for medium city rides.
The suspension is a three step adjustable one it’s on the hard side but for long rides it feels good.
        Cons
The tyres won’t give us confidence on the curves and ghat sections even though it’s an MRF (in case if anyone have a suggestions to upgrade from MRF please let me know along with this thread. )
The pillion seat is pretty rock solid and on long rides even the other seat takes the toll on the rider.
The ground clearance is low when you go on long rides due to the baggage weight.
        Safety, Fit and finish:
        Pros:
The braking is pretty good and confident building even I don’t have an ABS version.
The bikes build is pretty good compared to with other brands.
        Cons:
The fit and finish is not that good by the fuel tank area.
Some bolts and started to rust.
The wire’s outer covering have started deteriorate within just 1 year and 6 months.
        NVH Levels:
        Pros
The bike doesn’t make a huge noise like it’s siblings but once it’s reached above the 6k rpm the bike becomes more gruntier and I love that’s sound.
        Cons
The vibration starts to kick in at 4-5k rpm and also when you go on long rides the vibration on the spot is little getting under the skin
The bolts and nuts also start to get loosened due to vibrations.
Incase if you do a lot of city riding and especially in a city like Bangalore the clutch will literally fracture you arm lol.

        Overview:
NS200 is a value for money package and yes it comes along with some cons but yes if you maintain the bike properly and also take it to service on the correct service intervals it would be a doing it jobs and also keeping you happy and service doesn’t make your pockets go deep and also the spares are easily available. I would prefer to go with shell advance or better to go with mogul 7100 for better riding experience the most of above cons would be ruled of if you use the above mentioned oil. Since I just changed the engine oil to third party because till my third free service I was using Bajaj engine oil. For more performance and ride quality it’s better to use the third party synthetic engine oils.

In case if you want to know anything more about the bike please drop in or DM me!!
