Phew! Never came across this thread on xBHP!
I personally use an in-ear type earphone.... and apart from 'occulsion' as GS mentioned, I have ended up breaking like a zillion of them... One reason on why i stick to cheap philips in ear ones for rides now! at about 1200 they are much viable as compared to the triports (2 x R.I.P so far :P) which my friend smuggles for me

The ear phone and the iPod stays inside the jacket, and I work the wires from behind my ears so sat to allow certain amount of play... plus the balaclava helps hold it snug and acts as a 'dampner'!

Having said that, although I was kinda aware about the issues of listening music all the while! I was blatantly ignorant about the wind noise! No shame in admitting that!
Will start using the ear plugs now!
PS: I already have about 3 pairs of the ear plugs, courtesy Kuwait airlines freebies :P

    Here I go!

I think they were talking Rs.750 for 500 pairs if you order in bulk - that is awesome VFM! I'll be picking up 500 pairs if they hold to their offer.
      Sir,
50 pairs are for Prajwal only. Praful wanted few and I want few. That'll make 100 easily. And now the 500 for 750/- calls for a big bangalore order I assume.
My question. Why so many pairs?? are they disposable ones?
As i asked before, is this a lifetime purchase? ( not being sarcastic). Just curious.

Yes these are disposable. You cannot wash and re-use them and this is for the best because the ear is pretty mucky anyway. Wax and all sorts of crap...I would prefer to use a fresh pair for every 24 hours of use.

As long as you keep your ears clean - you can extend that to maybe 48 hours but beyond that, even the foam stops working the way it should thanks to all the wax, moisture etc. You'll know when to chuck it for a new pair.

          Ear Plugs

          Hello guys !
Can anyone suggest me some good ear plugs available in India so that wind noise can be reduced while riding on the highway at high speeds ?
i have used 3M foam earplugs (those orange one's) but they didn't work well for me .

I prefer the 3M plugs. Cheap, convenient and use and throw. I remember seeing Spartan stocking plugs in their store, but i don't see it online. Maybe other gear manufacturers stock them as well.

You also get silicone earplugs, which are made for swimming, i do not know how effective are they for motorcycling.

Finally, you can take the recommendation on this thread from Haroon and try and get custom plugs made for you from your local shop.

the problem i am having with the 3M one's is that i cant get them into my ears properly , they only go in about halfway.

which local shops make custom plugs ?

and if any of you guys have tried any other ear plugs then please let me know .

                    Re: The Ear-Protection Thread...

Use No Noise ear plugs specially made for motorcyclist , best thing is that it cuts out wind noise , road noise etc but you can clearly hear horns , sirens and communicate with fellow persons etc wearing the earplug. Costs around 2000 INR in INDIA.

                      Re: The Ear-Protection Thread...

I was using cotton balls all these years. But they become dirty so easily and the process of rolling cotton to fit into my ears is highly inconsistent, size weren't the same each time. Also keeping them safe in between the riding breaks become cumbersome.

Ordered 3M corded foam ear plugs from Amazon.

Fabricating silicon ear plugs from hearing aid center is a fantabulous idea. Gonna try that, thanks for the idea Haroon.

                        Re: The Ear-Protection Thread...

I've been using Nonoise for a while now (around 6 months or so) and I've found them doing exactly what they are meant to. It's very interesting how they (NoNoise) has managed to make a filter, which is ceramic, which blocks out just certain frequencies. It lets the sound of horns, sirens, and comms in and blocks out the more noisy wind noise which can be deafening at higher speeds.
They're reusable and washable and come in their own nifty little case so you'll never have to look for another set of ear plugs in a while!
A cousin of mine who happens to be a doctor and a biker, kept telling me to get a set of ear plugs because they are really necessary. Biking takes it's toll on the body - your back may or may not show wear, or the knees, but the hearing will take a beating for sure if you're not careful.
                        Here's where I got mine - https://www.bikenbiker.com/collectio...ion-by-nonoise

Exactly this is what I do and also have the same concerns as you do. I think this is the cheapest and easiest solution. In order to avoid the cotton getting dirty I keep it in a small box and keep it in the bag over the tank( petrol tank cover). I change them once every two days.

A few months back, During a fill-up the elderly attender spilled the petrol all over the tank. My kid's school bag, a few valuables all got damaged/wet and smelly. Beware.

                              Re: The Ear-Protection Thread...

I work in marine vessels and this is what is considered globally...

                              What is considered excessive noise?

While the amount of on-the-job noise exposure can be determined through various testing devices, excessive noise is generally defined as exposure to 85 or more decibels of sound over an 8 hour period.According to OSHA,hearing protection is required for all employees at this degree of exposure. This OSHA Action Level, however, will vary depending upon the decibel level of the surrounding environment. For example, if a worker is exposed to 100dB in a 2 hour period, he or she is also required to wear hearing protection. Each hearing protector product is required to meet the ANSI S3.19-1974 testing of NRR levels.
In all cases where the sound levels exceed the values shown below, a continuing, effective hearing conservation program should be administered.
                              Permissible Noise Exposures
For a better grasp of industry standards, here are a few of the most common producers of noise levels that OSHA considersto be dangerous: lawnmowers, rock concerts, firearms, firecrackers, headset listening systems, motorcycles, tractors, power tools and industrial machinery. The use of hearing protection is strongly recommended during continued exposure to any of the previously listed environments, as all can deliver sounds in excess of 90 decibels.
                              Painful:
150 dB = Rock Concerts at Peak
140 dB = Firearms, Air-Raid Siren, Jet Engine
                              130 dB = Jackhammer
120 dB = Jet Plane Take-off, Amplified Music at 4-6 ft., Car Stereo, Band Practice
                              Extremely loud:
110 dB = Machinery, Model Airplanes
100 dB = Snowmobile, Chain saw, Pneumatic Drill
90 dB = Lawnmower, Shop Tools, Truck Traffic, Subway
                              Very loud:
80 dB = Alarm Clock, Busy Street
                              70 dB = Vacuum Cleaner
                              60 dB = Conversation, Dishwasher
                              Moderate:
                              50 dB = Moderate Rainfall
                              40 dB = Quiet room
                              Faint:
30 dB = Whisper, Quiet Library
