      GS,

You can get a custom earplug made from the local widex dealers at your place.
Got mine made from them, costed me 400 bucks for the hard plastic ones. (the soft rubber one costs 600 bucks).

You will pay for your sins. If you have already paid, please disregard this message.

I was thinking about this when I was reading some of the starting posts. Among the helmets I have tried, Daijya had the best wind-noise reduction. Sparx was good too, but I didn't get to ride with it above 80-90 kmph. I haven't been able to try out Shoei or Arai as of now.

          really????
u close down the daijya lid completely and there is significantly noticeable whistling sound inside.
this is in all daijya models...same was printed in one of the reviews too...
sparx/kbc no doubt is quite good comparatively...

Can you corroborate your statement "this is in all daijya models"?

I haven't come across the review that you are talking about. But I am talking from my own experience from shifting to a Daijya from a GPR, and testing out Sparx and other models like Vega and AGV.

There is no whistling noise as you call it.

The indian made AGVs are horrible for high speeds(by indian made motorcycle standards).I've always loved their comfort which is why my second helmet was an AGV as well. Too much wind noise and I've used headphones for a while. I used the soft ones given in the aircraft for a while, but obviously they did not last long. Where can I get one in bangalore?

Whoa!! I thought they were tiny condoms there for a moment. On a serious note, Do those plugs shown in the picture cut out noise to such a level that other sounds like cars, horns etc are muted considerably? The helmet itself cuts out such noise, but of course, not the wind noise at high speed. So if these plugs can help cut out the wind noise yet allow me to hear the traffic, that'll be cool. Cause I'm not sure if I'll be comfortable if i'm not able to hear my sorroundings properly.

At high speed, my Daijya whistles when the Air Vent is opened. The whistle stops completly when its closed, though there is still woosh noise at high speed. My lid is always fully closed while riding. I also use Index which is quiet noisy comparably.

I saw some in Chroma above Star Bazaar, Hosur Road. But they seemed of very bad quality.

Hmm. If you read the article it says the whistling sound comes with the vents open. Also, this model is old and the newer ones, including the one I have, are a bit different. But this is kind of veering OT. Let's stick to topic.

Yes, the traffic noise is considerably muted, but just enough to hear someone honking. You will be relying more on the mirrors to keep a track of the traffic behind you.

The beginning few weeks would be a bit unconformable, since these earplugs cut out the noise and its feels a bit weird, but once you get used to it, you wouldn't want to ride without them : )

Wow niks_devil666. You got a good memory.

Yes, I had a whole thread before the xbhp web crash on ear protection. So I guess its gone with the wind...

For all of you that want ear protection, I went that route many many years back and after trying from headphones, to foam plugs to what not, I finally found the best solution in 'custom earplugs'.

All you have to do is walk into a hearing aid center in your town or city (these are the places where they fit those aids for people who have hearing problems). Tell them to make a silicon ear plug for your ear. They will take an impression of your ear cannal with some kind of wax and then make that with the silicon material.

                            The advantages of this plug:
-It has a snug fit in your ear
                            -Lasts for many many years
                            -You can wash it
-And while it seals off iritating wind sound, you can still hear your engine, the horn of other vehicles etc in low volume.

                            The only disadvantage:
Well, on my first ride with this plug, I was cruising as usual on my bike, but when I casually looked at the speedo, I was doing about 160kmph as against my normal cruising speed of 100-120kmph. The cutting out of the wind noice can make a difference.

I dont know the cost in India, but it should be around Rs. 400-600 for a pair

This is how it looks outside

How it looks inside my ear.

SO SAVE YOUR HEARING- ITS PRECIOUS
