  • [xBhp Universal Thread]: Porting and Polishing

Mods: If there is any thread dedicated only to Porting and Polishing please shift it there. I tried my best but could find in Universal Threads column.

I wanted to know details about Porting and Polishing like what it does. Does it increases the power and top speed or just the pick up and zippiness of the bike or car. As of now more concerned abt bike. I know only little bit of it i.e it increases the compression ratio, so more fuel is added to the chamber in turn more pick up and speed.

I have recently done it on my Pulsar 150Dtsi. I was told that it is not meant for 4stroke bikes so it is risky. i was looking out for a new 2 bike either P220DTSi or Karizma. But some problems kept me far from buying and investing another 1lac for a bike. So atlast did some modification on my P150. No heating problems till now. the intial pick-up has increased better than before, haven't check the top end still have gone till 80kmph speed. It catches 80kmph mark quickly so as of now i am having fun riding my bike. Let us see the long term effect if any disadvantages are there or not.
I just wanted some scentific details about Porting and Polishing and a univarsal thread on this topic.
    Thanks in advance.

Interesting. I think there was a similar thread before. Let me check up. For now, let the discussion flow here

Getting porting done does not inrease compression, infact it lowers the compression, thats why many tuners mod the head squish to gain the lost compression. please do correct me if i am wrong.

Porting aka Cylinder head porting is a process of shaving off of a small portion(usually in mm) of cylinder head and adding layers to the TDC. I don't know how it works but its said that it increases compression ratio and hence pick up. But you are sure to experience mileage drop.
More CC or Torque or Bhp doesn't decide who wins. Its the soul of the biker. Splendour and Pulsar are the same as long as the bikers share the same passion.

It is on Unicorn's head polishing here - http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/help-me/...d-porting.html & it covered most of the basic to intermediate discussion.
