Hi

After Incident with Aryan i am pretty skeptical about my bike security, i have guard in the building but i do not trust him, i recently bought a chain and a lock, but on youtube even thickest chain were broken in 14 seconds in a video review.

May be we can discuss various locks and there availability. I am listing few i am concerned about:

1. Autocop XS with engine immobiliser
2. Disc Locks
3. Chain locks


Please share your experiences and availability of them. I am at Bangalore, but we can share availability India wide.

Any lock can eventually be broken into, no matter what the kind of 'system' is. Anyhow, that doesn't mean we should act naive. After the incident with my P-200, I have got a shocker lock fitted, and I tie the tyres of the P-200 with two thick chains, ultimately locking them with a solid lock.

I really don't know how effective the whole locking mechanism is, but anyhow, that's all I can do as of now, from my end. Perhaps, fitting an alarm system could be better still.

how good are fuel locks ? if these are hackproof, maybe it might get stolen, but wont ride long and you can find it 100 mtrs away from home?!

i take the pain in parking my bike 'inside' my house. safest!

my flat has security guard but i do no trust all these gaurds, also i do not think fuel locks are of any help. Any updates in Autocop etc with Engine immobilizer?

@shadez: You are one of the lucky ones who has a nice parking space inside their premises. But for many of us, that is something of a luxury. As for petrol cock locks, I had one fitted on my P-180 Classic. It is pretty helpful in preventing petrol theft, I believe.

As for fuel locks, lemme mention one more experience several years ago -

Had gone to meet one of my friends. He parked his bike at a busy road with heaps of other bikes; after which we went ahead in my car. When we returned quite late, his bike was gone!! We feared theft and decided to go to the cops at the end of the road who were almost always stationed there in the nights. While we were talking to them, 2 other cops came riding down to us on a bike. And guess what? It was my friend's bike! On asking for an explaination, they said your bike was parked till late in the night at a lonely spot... hence they got suspicious and claimed it!! Now it was becoming very clear what the cops were after (bribe!)... though they never mention it outright. They started back questioning us on how we can prove its our bike! They also wanted all papers - RTO, insurance, PUC, licence, other proof of id., etc., etc. But my friend was not the kind who would pay... he pulled some strings and finally got the bike back without paying anything... and probably created some trouble for the cops too.

Thats a long story in short actually... but the best part is that the bike was locked with the ignition lock, normal handle-lock (not the new types which are integrated with the ignition, the old type which used to have a exclusive lock on the side, near the front forks) and a fuel lock!

Now the cops opened ALL the 3 locks in a trice, confiscated the bike, and were busy joy-riding around town! It seemed they had some kind of master keys.... they obviously didn't tell us how they did it... but thats what I remember observing.

The bike was a Hero Honda CD100SS. He sold that few years ago and bought a new Pulsar. The new bike was "stolen" from a parking lot, not by cops this time, but by their cousins (thieves!), from a parking lot; within just a few months.

Security is something that is one of the most ignored aspect of our lives, it seems. Locks seem to be last on the list of important things for most auto manufacturers... esp. 2 wheeler manufacturers. Almost anybody, be it cops or thieves seems to be able to open the stock locks with great ease! Don't know when that will change...

If ur Bike has no extra fitting and you gotta park it somewhere unsafe for long period then the best thing you can do is remove the spark plug and put the cable in default place . Bike just wont start

shed some light on disc locks then? what solution u think is the best then a chain lock + autocop?

keep the bike dirty - keep it chained well.
park next to a shiny bike, pref of a parsi - let him choose the easier target.

the caliber on tours was ALWAYS parked next to a shiny bullet or a ZMA

Any lock can be broken. But at least, having a lock and possibly an extra one would discourage many from trying. Do the needful from your side and leave the rest to the God

Security systems are crap. My next door neighbour has an Autocop security system installed on his P180 (the one with digi consoles, etc.), still last night someone stole the bloody seat off his bike!

This is ridiculous. The alarm is supposed to go off even if somebody touches the bike, or messes with the machine, but his seat got stolen and the alarm didn't even 'know'. Damn! Locks, security systems, the works - it all is actually ineffective. If you do not have a parking space in your premises, danger of theft is ALWAYS there!

I am shit scared about my bike now. Again!

I met some days ago a guy with his Fireblade 600... When I asked him about the security he told me, "this key is special. when the key is inserted, some circuit (electronic must be) is completed and then only bike is started". That is bike can only be started with 'his' keys. If u insert any other key the circuit cannot complete and hence bike cannot start. I don't have knowledge about such systems. Will anyone shed some light...?

^ Superbikes DO have special circuits and stuff, which cannot really be started with just 'any' key. However, I am sure people hell bent on stealing will find a way to get through them too!

After all, bike theft is pretty common in the West too!
