Windows issues
Hey guys,
Need some help. I ran a AVG scan on my laptop on sunday and after finding that there were no viruses, I cleared out the virus vault to remove any old infections which were captured. I restarted my system and to my surprise I found that windows wasnt loading properly. It is showing the windows start up and then shows a black screen (my wallpaper) with the cursor icon but without any sign of anything else loading from windows. I have tried starting Windows in safe mode etc but each time it shows a black screen with my cursor and nothing else. I keep restarting my laptop hoping some miracle will happen.
Can someone tell me what I can do to get my lappie back into working condition ?
P.S - my dvd drive does not work so i cant load windows off a dvd at startup.
P.s - It runs on Windows XP
Edit : Its an HP laptop, model number DV 5120.

care full with AVG n other anti virusWow, that was quick. Thanks for your replies guys. Ive tried starting it in safe mode but the same blank screen appears. Ive tried starting it with the option of last known startup that worked properly but no luck there also.Originally posted by ceasar View Postu can try "system restore" by starting the sys in safe mode...but safe mode is not working as u said..hmm

I guess the only option you are left with now, is formatting the os. If you had any important data in the hard disk, create a backup of it. Now, your dvd drive is also not working. Try to repair it or else replace it with a new one.Originally posted by neil.jericho View PostWow, that was quick. Thanks for your replies guys. I don't know if it could be the same problem, but my computer too crashed similarly like yours i.e. the OS refused to load from the boot device. In my case the BIOS detected the HDD, but refused to get the OS installed onto it. Then i found that the HDD had bad sectors in it and had to format the OS drive and reinstall the OS once more. But the HDD still shows "BAD" status every time the computer boots.Originally posted by neil.jericho View PostWow, that was quick. Thanks for your replies guys. u must have either one of them, without that u cannot install anything..
if u have important data on ur drive where the OS is installed, try making a backup using Linux Live-CD's they do a graet job, i always keep them with me,it prooves verty handy
if u dont have it,ask ur frnds, that is the only way u can make the backup of imp data-------------------------------

The thing is the AVG & AVIRA anti-virus program's works good at the beginning and then latter its start removing impotent files from your OS and then latter it shows all those files as virus and normely with out looking what files are they.... we just delet it then latter the pc wont start and also it removes automatically some of the importent files from the pc and some software's which will also end up in not working of any software and the os too ..better you all can use USB disk security ..i been using this from so long and after i had the same problem of not working of os etc ....and still my lap is protected with this USB DS and this is a small software which detects all virus ..when you insert a pen drive or a HD and its good trust me
