  • I got myself and xbox360 about an month & a half back had been a pc gamer all my life from the times of prince of persia 1 were a white disfigured man runs through a blueish kind of environment. I am truly amazed with the ease of controlling, aiming and shooting this controllers provide. Got GTA4, split second, splintercell and fifa 10 with the console. Played all the previous gta series on the pc was looking forward to play gta4, completed it a couple of days ago i liked the story presentation and complete open environment provided in the gta series. next in line is red dead redemption another game by rockstar.

Watched the review @gamespot. Didn't liked it, not found of zombie games. I would prefer something much tactical though.
        Thanks for ur suggestion :-)

          • guyz i need your help badly!
i screwed my system,it all started when i wanted to apply thermal paste ,i accidentally broke one of the pins of AMD 64 X2 4200+ ,the whole day i struggled trying to straighten out other bended pins, the broken pin i THINK is a VCC ground/voltage pin as my CPU is up and running.
now the problem is i am not experiencing the same gaming experience after all these things happened
let me give the details of my config, pretty old system

            ASUS M2npv-vm
            AMD 64 x2 4200+ @2.2GHz
            RAM 2.5 GB 667
            NVidia 6150 128MB

you must be thinking that with this config i shouldn't get any good performance
its true that it is old but most of the games i've played worked just fine
NFS uG2 to NFS undercover all worked fine, with medium settings

now after the incident, when i played NFS MW i noticed that iam getting 'paused' effect while playing it
the game is not lagging, its just like pause for a second or so and then it continues, graphics are same as before,no loss in that.
before the incident it ran very well ,as smooth as butter no pauses whatsoever

to check that i played NFS UG2 with medium high settings at 1024*768,again its having the pause effect while playing its just for a half-a-second or so,the graphics are good

i checked NFS UNDERCOVER-iam not able to run this gome smoothly even on 640*480settings,earlier it used

YouTube - game play of nfs undercover with buggati(sanjay's pc)

watch this vid of undercover on my PC recorded before the incident
( i recorded this vid for my frnd so bear with the quality and be patient plz!)

see i was running that game on 800*600

            but now its totally busted

i am unable to zero in the culprit
            my primary suspect :cpu

I ran several benchmarking tests, and to my surprise CPU's performance was upto to the mark
i checked real time clocking freq its 2.2GHZ as it supposed to be

Evn checked with memtest86 to rule out the chance of any defects in RAM modules
NVIDIA 6150 is also upto the mark

what do you think about this? who is the culprit here?

ps:i live in a remote place and iam the only one running AMD processor so as to check other's AMD on my system

            • If you have your CPU under warranty, then go to the shop and get it replaced. But, donot tell them that it is broken due to your mistake, instead try regular error: It is broken and I donot know why?

If it were under warranty then i wouldn't be compelled to post here.

Coming to the topic... AMD's come with 3 years limited warranty so check your CPU's OPN... It starts with ADX and is something like this: ADX***###**## (*=Numerical #=Alphabet Charecters) check it on AMD's site to see if its warranty is still valid. If it is, Contact the local distributor to have it replaced.

Other problem is, the CPU model is no longer in offering so I doubt if you will get a "like for like". You may get a refurbished or a similar unit. Anyways All the best

CPU is no longer under warranty, its been almost 5 years since i bought this system.
If i could indentify which one is causing the problem i can go for a newer one.
I considered buying a new graphic card, but even a new graphic card wouldn't help if the fault is with cpu
I couldn't fathom how a broken VSS pin could possibly contribute to this.

                    See post no #2555

So, better sell it off. And donot tell the seller the problem. That's probably the best way you could get a margin for this piece.

after going through ur post ... here is analysis:

                        1. 98% - its problem with ur heat dissipation .. temp is not dissipated properly. correct it .. it will solve ur prob

                        2. 2% - may be becouse of improper grounding as u broke VSS pin

from the report u given .. i don;t think anything wrong with processor... just apply heat sink paste and properly tight the heat sink ... check the fan.. it will solve ur prob ... and also check heat dissipation on ur graphics card and its fan.

Applied cooler master correctly, not to0 excess
                          CORE TEMP reports:

                          FAN2(cabinet)-2050rpm

its normal. If there is problem of heat dissipation cpu should be burning up .
plz elaborate how could a improper heat dissipation would cause a problem like this>?

50~60 till 75 are allowed temperatures for AMDs
                              INTELs story is totally different

I used PASSMARK benchmark tool to benchmark my cpu
My cpu score is higher than to the one uploaded by others, obviously dual cores(4200+)
