    Lavasa- Bikers' Paradise

I personally feel that Lavasa is a fantastic place to ride. Located about 40 kms from Chandani Chawk in Pune it is arguably the best patch of road in Maharashtra. Turn left from Pirangut village and you are on your way to the beautiful valley city which is being built on the lines of the Vatican. What makes Lavasa such an ideal location for biking are its two contrasting ghat sections. While the first one, Mutha, boasts of fast sweeping corners, the Lavasa ghat is highly technical thanks to its 12 tight hairpins. Moreover the road is in mint condition, wide and with proper marking. These are among the few reasons why it is frequently visited by Bunny and Co. to conduct their bike tests. However, this destination can be very dangerous if you do not respect its turns and the safety of other commuters.

I visit Lavasa quite often and it really hurts when I see newbies as well as good riders ride carelessly on these beautiful ghats. There are quite a few rider groups in Pune who ride to Lavasa every weekend and although most of these riders are dressed in the best protective gear, they go up and down the ghat sections (especially Mutha) at ridiculous speeds, cutting other commuters on the road, leaning at 80kmph into a blind corner and that too from the wrong lane. Such incidents infuriate me beyond control as it is because of these "RIDERS" that the villagers settled between these ghat sections have started attacking every properly dressed biker heading to Lavasa. I don't blame the villagers at all because quite a few of them have been hurt during accidents with bikers who were riding irresponsibly. So I request every biker here on xbhp who is reading this post to please ride responsibly, wear the proper gear and have utmost respect for other commuters and villagers on the road. I myself practice on these ghats every other weekend. I take corners at speeds that allow me to put my knee down. But I NEVER charge into blind corners and also make it a point to stay in my own lane even while I am leaning. Infact, you can lean a lot more if you stick to your own lane and the right line.

Lavasa is indeed the closest thing we have to a track here in Maharashtra. Please ride in a way that other bikers too can take advantage of the fantastic ride that Lavasa has to offer.

True , but not a proper place to hangout I feel. The only thing missing is a good "eating joint" . You can't even get good tea or snacks here.

Other options would be Amby Valley (R K's) and Mahableshwar( Mapro Garden...awesome sandwich)

For me the best place to hangout is Malshej Ghat's. I love the place it jst brings tears in my eyes everytime I sit by the lake .

I started my 2009 Ride season by a ride yesterday to Malshej. Had some wonderfull shots yesterday. You can see variety of birds flying back home wen you sit by the lake in the evening .

                        Time tested yes!

Once you reach there, you take a lot of time to wake up the dhaba guys. Then they take a lot of time to settle down hoping all the while that we, the biker boys go away somewhere else. We are time and again tested by the lackadaisical attitude of our lovely dhaba. But then in Delhi, there aren't too many joints to talk about.

About rides... there were a lot some years ago. Today every damn corner is choking to death! For any decent ride, you have to get a good 100 km out of the city. And you have some straights. Else to hit the hills you have a good 265kms to go before you get some good turns. Else you can do some pretend cornering at the numerous roundabouts in the Diplomatic area till the cops chase you out.

You have the time inclination to do more 200+ kms in a day one way, there are quite a few nice rides outta town around Delhi.

But joints to stop and grab a bite and remember the place... really have to think that one over.
The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!
