  • Which Petrol for R15

    Hello,

I've been using Xtra Premium from HP till date (since last one month i.e. when I purchased my first bike )

But, I'm confused whether it has any advantage over normal unleaded Petrol?
Please throw some light in context of our indian Bikes.

I cannot quote any numbers but I can say this. I have used both normal and premium petrol. There is no noticeable difference for my car as the engine is so smooth. However motorcycles engines are quiet harsh in comparison and I can notice the difference between normal and premium. Bike engine does runs smoother with premium so I always use premium. Performance and mileage...well I don't really care so I never check. But more importantly, premium has additives to clean the system.

All of them are good; I've seen culprits doing all malpractices at IOL, BPCL & HPCL & at the same time have seen best fuel station in all three of them across this country. Just ensure to fill in a good fuel station where they don't adulterate the fuel.

It so happened that one of my friend who owns a CBZ had to go out of town for 4 months. Before going, he drained all his fuel (around 4 litres) in a container which was a diesel engine oil container (HP Milcy). Although he had cleaned & washed the container thoroughly with soap & detergent still I feel that the fuel which he has stored may still be contaminated.
How much true this can be?

which one is good (unleaded fuel)
                    Shell petrol is very good.
They are company operated petrol pumps. It is 80-20 ratio for company and retailer.
The retailers are kept only to manage the petrol pumps, so there is very less chance of adulteration.

PS : This was told to me by a Shell petrol pump retailer.

Something to add for shell petrol. The petrol is 100% pure petrol. They dont mix ethanol in it. Also, the cost of Shell petrol is more than other petrol guys.

                      Cheerz!!

How do u know shell adds no ethanol?

It is mandatory by govt that all the petrol sold is supposed to have 5% ethanol by volume..and that includes shell too and not only HP,BP,IO

please mention your source where u got to know no ethanol is added

The guys at petrol bunker told me this. That is why, the shell petrol is costlier. Also, my cousin bro does contract work for shell. He also said the same thing.

Has Ethanol Blending being implemented in India? I know there were some talks going on but I don't recall Govt. providing a final verdict on this. Can you confirm?

There is no clear answer on google but i read at many places it was supposed to start dec 2012...then on the site of THE HINDU it said deadline has been shifted to june 2013

Shell petrol costs more because they buy petrol from BP,IO,HP and sell it at a premium including their profit(so a coco pump which is honest and doesnt do mixing is as good as shell)...this is because shell doesnt have a refinery in india....this was discussed somewhere in xbhp thread.....
