  • Hi All,

I have a 3 month old Pulsar 200. Its been through 3 services till date (yes, the last one was due to a crash )

Each time I went to the PBK guys for a service, they were pushing me for a so called "Performance additive" along with the regular oil change. It seems they are mixing 100 ML of a Oil-additive from Bardahl. Am not sure which one. I was charged around 150/- INR for the additive.

My query is, has anyone here experienced the same thing with PBK? BTW, I go to the Chennai PBK.
Does the Bardahl additive make any noticeable difference? I for one, cannot answer this because the PBK guys have been puttin this thing on my babe right from the beginning. So i do not know how my bike would fare without the stuff.

    Appreciate your replies!

    Cheers!

      Bajaj Calls it ET-PT..

Standing for Engine treatment and Petrol Treatment,
      (God knows what it does??)

Niether My Engine nor the Petrol is a Patient that it would need a treatment..

      • @Thaker: I have NEVER used it although the Probiking guys keep pestering me to use it. It is my machine, and I know what to use and what NOT to use, and an "engine oil" additive is not something that I want to use.

Moreover, I am not sure whether it's just me noticing it or what, but the P200s/ 220s using that "crap" additive have chain tensioner problems sooner rather than later. It might not really be connected to it, I might be wrong, but that additive looks like crap to me. Simple, plain engine oil is what my P200 can survive on, and I believe so can your P200.

Engine oil additives are a strict no-no! Infact most of them are banned for causing more harm than any gain.

Don't believe me, google about it...

Engine oil comes with all the necessary components that is required for its functioning, you can always consider moving to a better brand of engine oil. I can suggest you try Valvoline Premium 4T or the Motul 5100T or Motul 300V.

Chain tensioner probs had a different cause, it was mostly due to overzealous mechanics and thats why the chain tensioner issue is just service centre centric issue and not a fault of Bajaj.

Besides, engine oil additives in the Fuels thread is OT isnt it!

Thanks a lot Aryan! I had no idea how bad this stuff was for the engine. I assumed since the PBK fellows "recommend" it, it wud be fine. It is a wonder how these guys push for such "additives" when it is not advised by BAJAJ (yes I did some research n found it is the showroom blokes doing this and not the company). I have my next service coming in a month or so, and will avoid this stuff this time.

Again, Thank you all who took time to reply to my query! Really appreciated it.

              Cheers!

same thing happened to me ... when i am getting my p220 .. the pbk guys told me they will provide some thing like u said in the tank which will increase performance etc .. another guy who is getting the delivery along with me was also offered this one .. we both denied .. they told it cost 200 INR ... for every customer in Chennai they ask this and make them fill it ... vinoth in xbhp filled that in his p220 ... 200 INR gone ... waste of money ... when i first purchased my P150 classic same thing happened they mixed something with the oil and charged me 150 .. after that i realised its a mistake then never repeated it .... i am using shell super unleaded which cost 52 INR in chennai ... hope it is fine for my P220 Dtsi .. another one available is shell unleaded is 50 INR .. i think one more is available any guys know about another fuel type in shell

                    • Thanks for enlightening about the additives. The same thing happens with me whenever I get my bike serviced. They claim that the additive makes the engine smooth and increases mileage. Thank god, I never used it in my bike.

                      • @All: Please confirm if my findings are correct:
For petrol, there are 2 ratings, one is the AKI (Anti-Knock Index) &the RON (Research Octane No.)

Golden question: When we say a particular fuel say Extra Premium or Power is of 91 octane, which is the rating we are referring to? Does it mean that it is of the same 87 octane, but of RON 91?
I know that normal petrol is 87 octane. This seems to be the AKI.
What is the RON of normal fuel?
I know that ExtraPremium contains additives&friction busters etc.but does it mean that it is of a higher octane rating? Some say it is the same 87 octane. Please clarify.

Edit: Found this post on a car site, if you scroll down below, you will find that the RON for normal fuel seems to be 88 or 89, whereas for Speed91/Power/ExtraPremium it is 91. So is this the octane no.we are referring to?

Also given is a chart for choosing right petrol according to compression ratios.

                        Under 10: 1 - Normal Fuel
                        10:1 to 13.5 :1 - 91 Octane
                        13.5:1 to 17:1 - 97 Octane

I would like views from you guys on this!

Use normal petrol, it serves the purpose for indian bikes.
