I hope the links below helps in understanding the engine configurations...

Re: Difference between "Inline Twin" and "Parallel Twin"?
Parallel and inline twin are both the same, the crankshaft degree determine the way in which the cylinders move. The possible configurations for a parallel twin are 180,360 and 720 degree. For a 360 both cylinders will rise and fall at the same time, in a 180 configuration, one will rise and the other will fall, for a 270 one cylinder follows three quarters of the cycle of the other.
Btw, the Ninja uses a 180 degree configuration so one of the cylinders goes up while the other falls down.Last edited by Ezilkannan; 07-14-2013, 09:41 PM.2013 R15(Sold) | 2014 Duke 390 (Sold) | 2022 Adv 390 | 2022 Ninja 300

Concept of 180 degree movement & 360 degree movement looks practical to me but could not understand the actual difference
What in case of v-twin and flat twin engines, I think its the same as parallel twin, right?
One more thing is that if it is a 180 degree movement then a two cylinder engine can also become inline two, right?KTM RC390 - Current

Re: Difference between "Inline Twin" and "Parallel Twin"?
In a "V" twin cylinder the piston and cylinder angle determines the configuration...In a flat twin the 2 cylinders are flat in opposite sides opposed to each other like in most BMW bikes...in this case the cylinders are 180 degrees opposed .When Was The Last Time,You Did Something For The First Time.
