HI All,

My Bike is not registered yet due to strikes at RTO.

Can i still ride bike? Is it legal?

Actually speed limits by RTO are as follows

Heavy vehicle container truck:40 kmph
Bikes/Scooters: Max 50 kmph
60 kmph for trucks and buses

And surprisingly no speed limit defined for cars,jeeps and light 4 wheeler vehicles
Actually I think that it should also be restricted till 80 kmph max for any car/jeep/lcv but at present there are no restrictions.

at a signal, while waiting for your turn to moto gp out of the red light, just make sure that you are behind that weird zebra crossing look-a-like marking on the road, coz if you are past that, there's a Rs.100 fine, have paid that few days back at teen haath naka, where the so called line was not visible at all!

Per law, you've stop before the stop line that appears even before the Zebra line (its not weirdo; its to catch the attention of even the dumbest motorist have to yield to pedestrians there)

If the stop line is not marked or invisible, then what you said is applicable, but again, its better to stop atleast 2-3 feet before Zebra line because, the stop line is usually marked 5 feet before the Zebra line.

First of all, very informative thread. Many a times people get harassed by traffic cops as the cops says that your challan will come out to 1500 or so and then the poor citizen decides to bribe the cop to get out of the situation easily. When actually, the challan would have amounted to just a 100- 300 bucks and that money should have gone to the govt. instead it went in the cops pocket.

We all have done that sometime or the other. Now that we know the rules and the fines ... we ill be able to deal with the problem a lot better... No more bribing!! If there is a offence let the money go to the Govt. not these clowns pockets...Thank you very much for providing this info ..

I never knew this thread existed. Today came across this for the first time and its truly my bad.
Paid a hawaldaar Rs.100 bribe for entering in a so called one way ( there was no other way out due to construction work and I later found that the one way sign board was also lying down due to the same construction ). Had I knew 100 is the genuine amount I would have got a challaan instead of paying him that money since he said it would take Rs.300

These are the speed limits listed by Kerala Police, Kochi Traffic Police. By other places they mean the Highway, because these are the figures which we learn while taking the 'Learners'' license test.
