  • Buying a Bike after 7 years in Scooter! Help Needed

    Hi Guys,
I am buying a bike after riding a scooter for almost 7 years. I have zeroed in on Bajaj Avenger, as i was drooled over it for quiet some time now. I visited the Baja Probiking center at Bangalore and have the quotation ready.

I am an absolute noob when coming to bikes. The last bike I rode was my uncle's CD 100 about 4 years ago. I need your advice in issues like what to look for when taking delivery, what are the do and don't s etc. Avenger specific tips too are welcome.

Looking for some generous advice from you guys.

PS: I went through the past threads and am starting this thread as my questions were unanswered

      hey, not much.......
just see all papers like rc, insuarance and pollution certificate.
check all the stuff mention in the user guide is available or not.
any damage on the bike chassis, engine, or any other part.
and everything is working or not, from indicators to gauge.
Pick up a ride and rewrite yourself to a new Identity.....

the avenger 220 does seem to be a great bike, especially if it comes with all the engine features that come on the P220.

          First Congratulations

Easiest thing to do is, ask the dealer at PBK to give you the PDI (Pre Delivery Inspection) checklist & keep marking the points as & ask to do it in front of you.

If they don't have one, just check on the following
          1. Check for the functionality of all electricals right from the light on speedo to head light, turn lights, low beam, high beam, oil indicator, if any, rear lamps, horns & any other electricals. Try to make the combinations working too, like headlight & rear lamp & turn lights & horn etc

          2. Ask them how much of fuel is filled in & check if there's adequate fuel filled in like 1-2 litres

          3. My sincere suggestion will be to take the motorcycle after you getting the registration number imprinted on front & rear

          4. Check the air pressure on the steed before making the PDI & when you're about to take the steed from the showroom for any air leaks

          5. Check for smooth functioning of gears, no squeaking noise on brakes on front & rear

          6. If there's oil pressure indicator, check for its functionality

          7. May be, may be, you can check for the presence of air filter, battery (should be there) & may be check the battery (for old) output, self motor working fine

          8. You can do nothing, but still, check for any rust on few chrome parts

          9. If you're planning on any accessories, check the motorcycle first & then ask them to fit the accessories.

          10. Check for any loose bolt nuts randomly like at the main stand, side stand, sissy bar, handle bars, side shields, foot rest, gear & brake pedals

          11. Check for wheel wobbling on both front & rear; may be a thorough test ride can help

          12. May be check for rust inside the tank.

These are all I can think off now.

Thank you and Thank you. It was pretty comprehensive. I'm not planning on much accessories - may be just the engine cover plate.

I wanted to do teflon coating, but read in another thread that on the longer run, it is not good for the paint. Also read that a good brand wax does if not better, almost similar job. Any ideas on that?

I don't understand how its not good for the paint. I've teflon coating on my Activa for over 5 years now & still in mint condition.

Use the simple good old Waxpol. But buy it from a good reputed shop as there's a huge fake goods market floating.

If I decide to go for ateflon coat, should I get it done at the ProBiking center itself? Or should I look for an expert bike shop in Bangalore?

the Bangalore RTO seems out of town. and that's holding up the Bike's legal stuff - not the regn and all, but some stuff they need to get before they launch a new bike.

May be next saturday I'll have my ride.
