  • Apache , Unicorn, Pulsar, CBZ or Hunk

I am on the lookout for a bike in the 150 cc category for my daily commute. In addition to the basic requirement of a sturdy bike & good service the bike should give me a decent mileage.

    I am 5' 10" & weigh 65 Kgs (underweight).

    1) Apache RTR 160
    2) CB Unicorn (not Dazzler)
    3) Pulsar 150
    4) CBZ
    5) Hunk

Help me with the pros and cons of these bikes.
I am looking at the bikes mentioned above but am open to any more suggestions.

      Xtreme and Hunk
Same chasis same power Same FE same handling. Count both of these as one. Whose looks do you like more?

Pulsar 150: too old, too common. some reliability issues as well. Bad Af.S.S.

Unicorn: old bike, been around for quite some time, Great FE, boring to drive, Grandpa's 150 cc.

Apache 160: addictive performance, Bad FE, good braking(rear disc optional), looks great, Not comfortable for pillion.

FZ16: bad FE, great handling, looks great, 3K more expensive than RTR

      ***VERDICT***
      Chose between these 3 bikes
      RTR
FZ (if you are OK with the looks)
Xtreme/Hunk (pick the one which looks better to you, everything else is same)

go for suzuki GS150R for everything...

          and RTR for pure performance....

FZ16S just for looks and nothing else...

PS: You could even try P135...... it is in the same league.
It's not the hours you put in, it's what you put in the hours!

fz16 is a gr8 all rounder apart from FE and a very strong low and middle end city traffic is usually in the RVM...
            RTR is good in performance...
Hunk again for looks but i donth thikn it will match the performance of fz or rtr
gs150 is a 6 speed transmission which is a plus point and gives it an edge in the top end of the revolutions over fz or rtr but it looks like it should have come around 5 years earlier....
            Timon: Orange Yamaha FZ16 2009
            Optimus: Red Mahindra XUV500 W8 FWD 2013
Atom: Red Tata Nano XTA 2016
            Pumba: Red Harley Street 750

Uni would be the best option among all.
Its has decent FE, Good handling, seating position, effective breaking. Better torque comparing other 150cc bikes.
Less Maintenance, reasonable spares, overall Good reliability and worth for Money.

              Why not a Dazzy ??

Even I couldn't find much difference between the two bikes except in terms of looks but obviously CBZ is slightly costlier than Hunk.

Bad FE ? I haven't heard many people complaint about FE in RTR.How much is it exactly?

Everyone complains about bad FE in FZ that's why I have left it out.

It definitely is a worthy contender but believe it or not there are no Suzuki bike dealers in my city even though I stay in a state capital.

It seems Hunk is all looks and no performance. Is it, really?

Unicorn seems to have most of the good things you would look for in a bike but it has been there for a long time now & after the launch of Unicorn Dazzler I am worried it may be discontinued. Also, haven't heard too many good things about their service people.

                  Why not a Dazzy ??

Dazzler's looks didn't quite excite me, it looks more like the Twister.

                    One more thing.

Is my height OK for Apache ? I don't want to end up with a backache.

                      Go and test drive it.
You should be okay with the bike, unless you have long legs.

im 5'10" but 76kgs, i too considered all the above bikes + GS150R
Apache did not suit me..very small bike
Pulsar: wanted a more reliable bike atleast for 4-5 yrs
FZ: doesnot have a good rear seat havn't seen many FZ with pillion btw i stay in bangalore
Dazzler dint like the looks aimed at only college boys in my opinion
GS 150R had everything goin for it but not many on roads and lot of rusting complaints also the stickers r not appealing...
CBZ/Hunk both r good its a personnel choice but i went for the source of the engine...and thats CB Unicorn which had everything i wanted...

I was recently looking at those bikes since I am gonna buy my first one this month. I can surely say Apache RTR & Pulsar both have sporty stance, which can be a little bit backache for tours if you are not used to it. Since many people do tour on them, I think its just a matter of time getting used to it. Shouldn't be a problem for you.

Cheers for a new 150 in Advance.

Rahul. I do not own a Unicorn dude I own a Pulsar 220. But surely gonna "upgrade" to Unicorn as your requirements its a sturdy bike and awesome power and fuel efficiency man. The bike does not need to be take care of. The parts of this bikes are cheaper and it also is a no nonsense bike. I know many people who have used unicorn and still prefer Unicorn out of all. The engine refinement is the best. You will be paying a little more for this machine but trust me you will not regret this at any given cost. My friend owns a Unicorn since like 5-6 years and still gets a mileage of 40-45 with insane riding conditions. Trust me he has also got many modifications into it. I am so very sure of it let me tell you. You wont face a problem with this bike for at least the next 3 years. The rest bikes are also pretty good but even after the dazzler coming out People are preferring to go for CB Unicorn. Here in Mumbai At least the delivery date is 8 months thats like a very long waiting period. And i am saying this because i myself want to purchase it but the waiting period is very much. CB Unicorn is the best 150 cc bike according to me in all aspects.

The most important tip of all:-
Go the the showroom take the bike for the test ride fill petrol for rs 50 ride it well. Trust me this will help you in choosing the correct decision.machine
