  • Used Yezdi as a first bike?

Hi, this is my first post in this forum. I finally decided to ask the advice of experienced bikers here after checking out this forum during my research to choose a bike to buy since the last two weeks.

Firstly, if not for my budget constraints, I would have immediately gone for Royal Enfield Classic without any hesitation. Enfield bikes are my first love and I might even still consider buying the Bullet 350cc by expending a few extra bucks.

I have also always loved the Yezdi bikes even though I never rode it in my life. Its just the powerful acceleration plus classic looks and 250cc powerful engine, that does it for me. However, I am aware that maintaining this bike is extremely difficult as the parts are very rare to get nowadays. Moreover, I've not yet found anyone willing to sell it in Pune (where I stay). If I find a 90s make Yezdi with some renovation done fairly recently, I would strongly consider buying that.

My last option is Yamaha FZS. This is also a very good looking, powerful and efficient bike and if I am unable to get a good yezdi or an enfield, I will definitely go for it (somehow my intuition says that I might end up buying it only it in the end!)

My requirement is to commute daily around 10-12 km (up and down) and I am not physically large. I've had only little previous biking experience on my bro's pulsar 150. So this would be my first bike.

    Any suggestions?

Welcome to xBhp; appreciate to post an intro on yourself at "Who Are You" section.
Regarding Yezdi, I don't know how old/young you are & your family background. If you're looking at a troublefree motorcycle to give you smooth power delivery for short commutes, then Yezdi is not your choice of cake. You buy 2 strokes for the love of it & not for the power. If budget is not a constraint & want a powerful 250CC, then you can settle for Ninja 250R which is "THE BEST" in market today.

          Go for bullet.
Though I hate those bikes, but I love it when people make decision with their hearts.

And there is no use buying a bike and then saying to yourself "I wish I had bought that bike"
Because at the end of the day, a few grand dont matter, all that counts is the satisfaction with your decision.

Have a look at Yezdi. Its an awesome bike. What mileage are you expecting? You cant expect more than 25-30 out of a Yezdi running on Jikov(stock carb).
P.S:What is your budget?you can get a Yezdi for a far cheaper price than any of the new bikes.Spares are available here in B'lore

My budget is around 70k. Mileage expectations are around 40-50 kpl.
Tomorrow I am going to Royal Enfield and Yamaha showrooms and will try out the bikes first. As for Yezdi, though I really love that bike, right now I am in a hurry to buy a bike and therefore cannot afford to spend time checking out a few rare Yezdis around for sale. May be in future, I might buy one.

So basically, I am left with two preferences:-

              1. Bullet 350.
              2. Yamaha FZS.

I would suggest against the bullet as well. The beasts offer too much power and very less braking (considering you're looking for a secondhand bullet at 70k), unless you get one with proper disk break.
Why not stick to a 150CC like a Dazzler or for your budget even a A-180 or a GS150?

the advantage these bikes have over your choice is very simple:

                  1. Less Mainatainance
                  2. They offer better mileage figures
                  3. Resale value is much higher compared to a 2nd hand bullet
                  4. Spares availabilty

                  So on and so forth...

Test drive the 150/180/200+ cc class segment bikes. I would ask you not to rush things... Selecting a Bike is like finding the right girl. If you make the wrong choice, she might just stick to you for a looonggg time.....

                  Just my 2 cents,

Okay, I agree with your advice of listening to my mind rather than my heart. And besides, right now I feel that I weigh a little lesser to ride a Bullet. [] Nevertheless, it will always remain my favourite and I might even go for one when I am an experienced biker.

For the time being, I have set my priority list as follows (highest to lowest) and will only make a decision after taking test drive of these bikes:-

                    1. Yamaha FZS (or may be SZ150)
                    2. Suzuki GS150R
                    3. Honda Unicorn Dazzler
                    4. Bajaj Avenger 220

Its a good move mate. Once you gain some kays on your bike, you can save up and buy a bullet if its your passion. Now about your choices:

                      1. FZ: Beautiful City Bike, offers awesome flickabilty and braking. Low On Mileage and seating can be awkward for tall people. Not really a tourer bike, but a street fighter. Spares are costly and resale is good.

                      2. GS 150: Its more of a technological achievement than a Bike. The first thing youll notice on this bike is the pickup. its kind of low but decent enough for city riding. Its a star on the highways where comfort and crusing matters. I own one and I've done 100+ when the roads are just perfect. Its just VFM for a Commu-tourer like me. Spares are costly and I've never really heard of its resale. Might be the customers are happy , but i expect it to be decent.

3.Dazzler: Yet another Marvel from Honda. The Engine is the major plus although the bike carries a lot of plastics, which can be a turn off for people like me. Pickup is decent and Looks are purely based on your perspective. Personally I hate it but then again It's Honda. Spares cost like hell, but you might not need them unless you ride against a brick wall... Resale should be excellent as with all Honda products

4.Avenger: A nice tourer, but I would advice you against it. The reson being its not a practical city bike but a beautiful tourer. Its a bajaj engine so I really cant talk about reliability. Dont let the Bajaj Fanboys fool ya. Spares are cheaper mainly because you're going to keep buying them again and again. Resale can fetch you decent prices but you will definetly find a buyer for a bajaj product. too many illiterates around :P (Jus kidding)
