  • My First Bike

    Hi All,

I'm Sauravh. A fresher both in Job and biking. I've been around on xBHP for over 3 months and joined it a few weeks ago only. I loved it the very first day; but thought I m not eligible to join.. I haven't ridden a bike since last 5 years after an accident (I was pilion. Dad was rider).. I got scared of fellow rogue riders that much that thought to never ride on bikes again...
BUT.. Here I am.. can't resist the fun of riding.
I have gone through all threads in what bike section but as none of them answered my requirements for the first bike... so posting a new thread.
I've started earning since last 6 months... I've decided to by myself a bike in coming month.
But it would be on finance and I would say.. haven't saved much.

    My Physique:
    Age: 22 years
    height: 5' 6"
    weight : 53 kgs (I'm very slim.. I know )

    My requirements:
    1. Office commuting (20-30 kms Max) : My office is approx 5 kms from my place now.. but would shift to delhi as soon as i get the bike. so it would become approx 18 kms one way.
    2. Touring (weekends 100-200 and long rides in 3-4months)
    3. Sporty looks (full fairings is a plus) and good handeling around corners (I'm weak at corners.)

So, I would like fellow xBHPians to suggest me a good bike.
Also, I would like to get feedback about karizma ZMR and Yamaha R15. which of both would be suitable for my height

    PS:
    1. Mileage is not a constraint here.. 30-35 is ok for me. I'd like to have Ninja if I had the moolah ...
    2. 100CC HH commuters are strongly restricted.

    Sorry for the long post

With your requirements, you can go eyes closed with R15. It is the best tech-piece available in India, with great styling, looks, fairing & performance.

            Thanks zayn & abhis3k!!!

I am too inclined towards R15... heard a lot good positive reviews about it.

I visited Yamaha showroom here in noida and seen it in flesh. Test ride was not available ... So, could not test riding.
One thing; I was disappointed by the quality of fairing.
anyone please shed some light on it...I felt the build quality of fairing too weak compared to zmr...
I felt like it could break by slightest impact in traffic. Hope I'm wrong.

R15 was my first choice... as i stated I've not saved much... so price was a concern..

I've to buy it on finance and that too with down payments have to be from a few months savings only... Could not ask parents.. They'll kill me if they come to know that I'm buying a bike.. just don't ask why

                    welcome to xbhp.
a small practical rule. use multiple quote instead of quoting each message in a separate reply. use the ' "+ ' button to multi-quote.

i would suggest the R15 simply for your physique. cause even i'm going for a new bike (on hold as of now waiting for mahindra's 300cc bike) lol before that i was pinned on the R15 cause even am thin (HI5). the biggest advantage is the R15 weighs 121kilos while the HH weighs 150kilos (dont exactly remember though.) dont worry about the fairing its as sturdy as it can be. best bike in its class. it ticks off all your requirements. worth every penny spent. and even if you break the fairing each part of the fairing can be replaced separately and it doesnt cost a bomb like HH (TRUTH !!) and did you read the threads about parts unavailability for ZMR? :P

                    i say go for R15 !!
as regards to finance schemes you should approach the various banks and the yamaha showroom itself. they would be able to help you best.
                    Regardless, Life shall go on.

Now that's out of the way. It's pretty simple. You seem to have narrowed down your options to the ZMR and R15. Both are good bikes, both are reliable and both offer decent power. Cornering ability on a bike, seriously on a daily commute you aren't exactly going to ride like rossi. But if you are sure you're going to tackle every turn on the road. Then go for the r15. it's priced higher than the zmr, which is also fuel injected. But both bikes will look big considering you have a small frame.. 5.6 and 50 odd kilos doesnt exactly match a karizma. Maybe the r15 will suit you with that in mind. I'm not sure about this but I've heard that full fairing bikes like the r15 have a difficult time staying on the highway while facing crosswinds etc. You can cross check on this. All the best for whichever ride you choose.Let us know of future developments.

ps: you don't fancy the p220?

No Pulsars for me I guess... No offense for pulsar owners.. I like it.. but its too common now... Also; Its a bit hard in turns.. I've ridden 1st gen pulsar 150 and liked it.. but its a bit tacky in corners... and that is where I feel weak.. I'm not so confident in cornering till now ...
So, a bike with good handling and that boost my confidence in corners is definitely not a pulsar...

I zeroed on these two bikes (zmr and r15) only for their handling capabilities and performance..
R15 is the best technically advanced 150cc bike.
ZMR has honda's reliability and mileage seems li'l better with such power (220+ cc)
R15 is a preference because as seen in flesh.. suits my height.. haven't seen zmr in flesh so I was confused...

don't misguide others by saying this,i myself met with an accident after which i had to change whole fairing from one side, handle alignment, wheel alloys, handle bar, indicator n few other parts as well & the bill was mere over 6k & after claiming insurance i got 4,321/- back as well so i don't think anything just over 2k for all these things is a BOMB..if you want then i can even scan that bill along with insurance return to ensure my words..

bro seriously you must see a ZMR in flesh(if possible then along with an R15) before you buy your bike, though for your height R15 suits you better as ZMR is a huge bike but it seriously it feels royal while you ride a ZMR
