  • Scooter for Father in Law

    Hi all,

My father in law is using SCOOTY pep for the past 5 years, wants to upgrade to a good scooter

    Location Thanjavur Tamil nadu

he is 60 yrs old healthy retired army doctor.

    he doesn't want to go for TVS again {thats his experience with TVS so far}

    Honda ACTIVA
    or
    Suzuki Access
    or
    Mahindra Rodeo
    or
    HH Pleasure

    Honda ACTIVA
It is good but the wait period is almost 3 months and dealer is insisting him to go for installment option to get it early even-though we are ready with full cash

test drive is not allowed as they have no bike in stock for that it seems

    Suzuki ACCESS
Looks good and more power But servicing at his locality is really a "?"
have to checkout for test drive by next week

    Mahindra RODEO
comparing to activa and access this is cheeper by 10 K and with 125 cc so got a question on quality (are they compromised on quality to give at lower price) need to check with dealer for test drive and guys tell me how reliable it is and its mileage

    Hero Honda Pleasure

Have no idea about it someone please throw some light on this.

He asked me to pick a good one, so Its my turn give him a good one

If its for my dad means i wont bother this much; but its for my father - in -law have to keep my good name yaaar

Please help me on choosing the apt one
Sarcasm is my automatic response to stupidity

Close your eyes and go on rodeo, there is no compromise in quality standard, mileage is also 40+, ground clearance is better, throttle response is good. Service is good in my city as compared to TVS, HH and Honda.

Suggested MM Duro to my friend who is using it for past 3-4 months. im not sure of the date. its very good.

i suggested for the same reason you mentioned. 10k lesser than access 125 cc and its pickup also good. Rodeo on the other hand having low clearance and usb charge point , digital meter and all. Better to avoid rodeo for low clearance height.

Duro and rodeo having same engine. Rodeo is around 46 and duro is around 42

But again you have service center for it in thanjavur ?
        Rides: HH SPl (2000-2005) | TVS Vic GLX (2005-2010) | S GS150 R (Current)

Aviator would be a very nice option for your father-in-law. It has a great tall stance that gives you a very commanding and comfortable position. The front suspension is telescopic with very good underseat storage. Disc option is there which makes it a great handler. The build quality is awesome and does not rattle. Headlight beam is excellent. The engine is bullet-proof new-age 110cc engine which gives an excellent mileage. Comes with maintenance-free battery and viscous air filter.

Moreover, it will have a less waiting period than Activa.

Alternatively, TVS wego is a great option, but it is new in the market and long-term reliability needs to be established.

BTW, I have used AViator for almost 8months/12k kms. I am suggesting you based on my true experience. My wife has Kinetic Flyte (same as Rodeo), though is a good scooter, it gives less mileage and the low ground clearance is very annoying. I would suggest you to stay away from it. A.S.S. is very very bad.

Engine in Duro and Rodeo is same as Flyte. It is made by SYM. The engine is very good, but the mileage is very low. Never buy a Duro. It has "pathetic" suspension.

rajesh you are wrong here as rodeo has a better ground clearance, i am using it from last 3 months ripped it and taken it in hell lot of speed breakers and bad roads it never complains and i have seen in fact activa banging on the speed breakers but rodeo doesnt has the issue.

Rhodeo With Digital speed and other feutures it looks good, seems to be somewhere close to 48 K on road.

Aviator i didn't mentioned coz it looks seems to be ment for youth more for youth

even i saw good reviews for Wego but if i say the 3 letter company product he rejects on the spot

Close to the home we have a suzuki sub dealer have to check howzzz their service

Aviator looks very good, you may not like it at first, but is damn different. The masculine features gel well with elderly males. In fact, I don't like to see males riding an Activa or Scooty.

If possible, go and take a test ride and check out with your father-in-law. If you still do not prefer, go ahead with other choices.

Rodeo has very less ground clearance and bottoms out even on small speedbrakers. Please keep this in mind.

If I were you, the telescopic fronts on the Aviator is my choice.
What about WEGO? If that is launched, give a try, it seems to be of great promise from TVS.

                        think i crossed half way

Honda products are quality wise really very good that's it. We can't expect any thing else.
Greedy head weight dealers and cozy servicing

Suzuki at his place have to review the service facility when I visit last time the sub dealer at thanjavur has only one servicing mech....

Mahindra Rodeo seems impressive in terms of look, security futures, gadgets and etc...
also the price factor is there. but many are reporting the ground Clarence and 19 to 30 kms mileage issues

TVS Wego I can't go for it as my father-in-law already learnt good lessons from them thanks to his scooty pep

Hero honda pleasure: most of them doesn't have feedback for this scooter.

Probably I will try some test drives this week, hope that will provide cues on finalizing

Going to test the access and rodeo (honda showroom doesn't have a test drive scooter ) during my last visit they insisted me to try customers bike. Which I disagreed to do so

                        * note the above are based on my personell experiance, I am not blamming or trying to hurt someone's favourite scooter

@ravi and rajesh - i think you should go and test ride the rodeo for a really long distance back to back with activa/aviator/wego than you will know the ground clearance and the fuel efficiency and above all the comfort factor.

I agree the duro has multiple issues but rodeo is a VFM scooterate

I have a Flyte in my family. Rodeo is nothing but a Flyte, except for the changed front. I rode Aviator for good 13k kms. Now, I guess I have enough experience to comment on the ground clearance of Rodeo.

There is gearless scooter thread in team-bhp. There are multiple users there who bought Flyte with same experiences of mine. Ground clearance is a big issue.

Honda aviator is the best scooter IMO. it has alloys and the best look.
