  • FZ16 or suzuki GS150R ?

    Hello All,

I am planning to buy a bike in this October , i have been reading a lot (lots) of reviews over the last month , and am totally confused !

I travel atleast 50KM everyday to work , so comfort comes first
I dont need a power bike (as apache) i dont mind if it goes to 0 - 60 in 5 or 6sec
Mileage ! i would be happy if my bike returned 40KMPL

Here it becomes complex for me , I Dont know how to ride a bike yet !
FZ owners are telling that if you maintain your bike properly it will return 40+, but with me ridin her wont i harm the engine ? and will it not affect mileage eventually ?
    >> Ppl tell that if you dont follow speed limits in run in periods you will get less mileage later (risk i cannot afford to take) some have also reported getting 30-35(which is too much for me)

So i decided on Suzuki GS150R , but here ppl say this is too heavy and hence not a city bike and not comfortable to make sharp turns(in city of course)
I really was hung on to buying FZ ,
I am learning in weekends couldnt go for test rides as i dont have license . its hell inside my head !

      Hi !!!!!!!!!!
      I brought the Suzuki gs150R..
Yes bike is heavy.. But whilr driving it you will never come to know about the weight.. as i am 6.1 feet tall so weight is not an issue for me..
regarding driving comfort... it super cool...
      milage for me it's 61km/ltr..
      i drive 45KM per day..
and it;s a good city bike... and the sixth gear is gr8 no bike sound at all...
as you have to maintain the bike cause if you never maintain the bike then you buy any bike we go down soon..
so the servicing regularly and change oil on time bike will remain healthy and will give you gr8 pleasure..
I never rode FZ so no comment on it.. no +ve and no -ve
at the end it;s your decision....
      all the best..

      cheers,
      Kiran ...

hmmm...The problem you are facing in purchasing an fz is a problem present in all bikes. Any bike if not ridden properly in run-in period would lead to a shorter life of it i.e. reduces the life of the engine & mileage. Dont think that if you rip or ride improperly the GS while in her run-in it wouldnt affect any thing to its life. Any new bike should be ridden properly in its run-in period may it be an fz or GS or even a ducati.

Secondly when compared the fz is more flickable & easy to maneuver in cities. It is comfortable for the rider (not for the pillion although). You can obtain a mileage of 40+ easily if your riding techniques are right. Its an overall better city bike. Even if you compare by looks also it is one of the best looking bikes.

Now the GS is an entirely different bike. It is more inclined for touring purposes. Its added 6th gear gives it an smoooooth ride. Its top end is also much better than fz (fz-106.x while GS-108.x). Its very comfortable for both rider & pillion. Its got an edge in mileage also. It might not be as flickable in cities as fz is but still it is a good city bike & can be maneuvered easily.

Since you are a new rider then i would recommend a bike which is easy to be handled & much more fun to ride. Hence i would recommend you the fz.

Doing a long drive in typical congested city condition hurts much
So make sure to do a long test drive (at least 7 or 8 kms)
i know the requirement is not only a 40 kms mileage and style
it should suit your physic, driving nature and comfort level

i setteled with GS but i am not recommending it ahead of FZ coz both are jap bikes and quality wise equal.

Try test drive and settle down

To get 40+ on an FZ, you will have to ride it at speeds at which you would ride a splendor. Ride a GS150R / Dazzler the same way, they will return 55+. Agreed the FZ looks good and handles better. But thats about it.

My suggestion: If you like its looks, go for the Dazzler instead of the FZ. Get an extra disc brake for a similar price.
The Suzuki is very good too but looks a bit plain in comparison. Go for it if you don't mind the looks.
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.
