  • R15 for a Newbie?

    Hi,

I've been riding my dad's Hero Honda Street (step-through) for the past 10 years. And I've done very little driving on other bikes.

So, is Yamaha R15 a good choice for me?

    Topic Approved.

It sort of depends on the kind of requirement that you have. Nonetheless, an R15 is a good machine, no doubt.

If money is no object. R15 is perfect for learners. In fact almost all bikes available in the market (with the exception of big imports) are suitable for learners. The R15 is just better.

        ^^^ so true!

please be more specific, what do you want from the bike? Long distance trips? or just city riding? more mileage or sheer performance ... do you care for looks or just the utility, also one must select a vehicle that will suit their build: an extremely fat person trying to ride an apache has disaster written all over it. choose carefully. As for the R15 it's an excellent bike, haven't heard any complaints about it..after all its yamaha man.

You might want to wait for a few months buddy, bajaj has plans of releasing a bigger pulsar early next year. And Bajaj always price their bikes very competitively so it might be around the cost of an R15..Then again it all depends on what you're looking for. peace

the R15 is a good choice. yes.

if u're worried about dropping it...
it's not exactly the best bike to learn to ride a motorcycle.
i say this purely because of the full fairing.

but you've been riding a step-through bike for 10 years...
that's a long time... so dropping it shouldn't be an issue.
so i'd say the R15 is a good choice.

I'll be using it for city riding and occasional long trips. I care about performance & quality than mileage.

                R15 is a great bike.
I too had the same doubt before i bought my bike.. it was my first bike. i din't had much experience of riding a bike , had just taken a few rides on my friends unicorn before that! still , i bought the bike and it is awesome! it just gets better after each service!

The rest depends on your usage, requirements. And about the performance and quality , people can go on 'n on talking about it!
God left this place a long time ago..

Frankly, there isnt any reason R15 cannot be good for a beginner.
the only thing is...if you are a beginner prone to falling...then it can be expensive!

I have ridden R15 and I can say its much easier to ride than its 220~cc competition, but you must take care that:

                    1. you might have to change gears a lot more than other bikes, and keep it mostly in the high rpms to enjoy it to the full...

                    2. riding position might get tiring if you plan big trips.. for normal commuting, its great..

and yes, don't drop it... the result otherwise, would be a bill in excess of 10k rupees.

Its not that expensive unless its a real bad crash taking your head light assembly/radiator out.

the entire fairing costs below 2.5k. in case of a drop .

                        I second you buddy!!

First of all the parts dont break easily and you can get away with a few falls at low speeds.

I learnt to drive on an R15 and now,
the more i drive other bikes, the more i love my bike!!
