  • A Potent Cruiser, with serious city-riding abilities needed!

    Hey people!
i am new to threads, this being my first...
i want to buy a good, able cruiser, which i can take out for city riding, too.
it can be an integrated cruiser, like the Bullets or the avenger, or a sports cruiser, like the Karizmas or the P220...
    m confused.
i have loved the Bullets since childhood, but also respect others aforementioned.
    my physical information....
I am 5 feet eleven, with a slightly oversized body.
    ...
please suggest something, that you think is the best for the above data.
am planning to buy it within six months, but i daydream about it every single day, as i am sure everyone from this must have done at their times...

current machine? why are you changing it?
        budget?
require a VFM like bajaj with instant delivery.. OR dependable like ZMR with parts problem and 3 months waiting
have you taken any test rides?
        daily commute, touring KMs?
        with/ without pillion?

current market have P220, ZMR, RE for you..

I think there are only two Cruisers in the Indian market today, with the exception of HD. The Bajaj Avenger and the Enfield Thunderbird TS. Choose one which you feel is better.
There really are no sports cruisers in India.
If you are not willing to go for either Avenger or Thunderbird, you can probably check out the P220. The ZMR is a good bike, but it costs a 20k more and also has a waiting period of approx. 3 months.

            hmm...
my budget is around a lakh, extendable by maybe ten thousand.
i have considered the Avenger 220, but i don't like the sound it makes at high revs.
the thunderbird is under consideration, too.
but then i cannot decide between the P220 and th ZMR.
both are very good bikes, and i have no issue, as Nitin and Guru pointed out, in waiting for some time for the bike.
and i have more inclination towarsds the ZMR than the Pulsar.
i feel Hero Honda is more reliable.
the Thunderbird is a gr8 bike, but it costs a lot.
i am also considering the STD, but its performance is not at par with the two bikes shortlisted.

and i am currently using my dad's inherited HH Splendour.
faithfully does the duty, without much sweat... though it DOES sweat profusely when i give it the stick.

                budget is 1lakh..
so you have every indian manufactured except classic 500 in radar..

                now upgrade from splendor..
                two choices:

                1.
a laid back ok enough power upgrade to 150 CC..
                unicron, (dazzler?), FZ/fazer (long ride?)

                2.
                powerful upgrades..
                1. if buying any pulsar, don't go for less than P220.. --> high maintenance
                2. Karizma --> with spare parts and bike waiting..
                3. RE for RE lover.. all come for same price now.. TB, C350, electra.

we can only suggest options.. but you will have to choose..
                start by choosing a class..

                have you ridden an RE?
if not, take a long test ride..
can you handle those vibrations?? only an RE lover can..
RE can either be only option OR not an option.. you cant compare it man!!!

                  Hey

you can try the classic 350, you might have to stretch your budget a little bit but it's a good buy. avenger 200/220 are good bikes too...is sound at high rpm your main criteria of selection? don't dismiss a bike just on that flimsy ground. I have heard the thunderbird twinspart to give problems, I don't know details. It would do you good to check ownership experiences of all the bikes and test drive them before making a conclusion.

i AM a huge fan of the THUMP, as it happens.
and i have a Bullet as a potential buy.
the vibes are not a huge problem, and i can live with that.
and also, i think a 150cc is weak for long, 2000kms of tours.
so will stick to the Karizma or the Bullet.
now choosing the class is going to be tough, as i love both the fast acceleration, as well as the laid back, cruising-style of riding.

thanks so much for all the help.

@roguerider: the sound IS a good criteria for me to strike out a buy.
it matters what sound my beast is making when i'm all alone in a desert, or on an ice-capped, isolated mountain.

though i wont mind buying the Classic 350, i feel i can get the fi, 500 at just rs.15000 more.
but then it doesnt serve the purpose of a cruiser.
i feel the bike is meant more for "city riding and occasional tour" kind of a person.
                      thanks a ton, anyway!
