  • Thunderbird Vs Avenger 220

    Hi

I was planning to buy a thunderbird. However, the waiting time of TBTS is 4 months in hyderabad. So, I am toying with the idea of going for a Avenger 220. My criteria are

    1) Excellent ride quality ( most important being suspension)
    2) Low maintenance
    3) Mileage of aroung 35 KMPL
    4) Durability ( This might be the last bike i will ever buy. So planning to use it for around 10 years)

I am not too keen on the image and abstract factors ( excitement factor etc)of the bike. Please advise if Avenger can be a good substitute for TBTS and tif there are any known issues with Avenger 220.

    Cheers

With Avy, maintenance is not expensive but its time consuming.

Its not that you keep the bike in service center for 3 days, do all work, pay a healthy bill and come back after clocking another 3k kms..

For avenger, there always be a small work, but really cheap.. 10 mins and Rs. 20 may be but you have to afford that 10 mins out of your schedule. It wont last (default service schedule is 5k kms) service to service without needing attention..

Works are too common, and any pulsar (p180 UG-4) mech can do it for you.

However, if you can afford that those 10 mins and 15 mins once a while.. Its really a awesome performer.

      4) Durability ( This might be the last bike i will ever buy. So planning to use it for around 10 years)
It you can maintain, it will last but by that time you would be ending up in changing everything of the bike. Again remind you, they are not at all costly..

Any bullet will out perform bajaj here as for frame / cyclic parts durability.

My safe guess is if ridden heavily (30k kms a year) and maintained properly, it should do 5 years with ease...

One more advantage of Avy 220 DTS-i is it shares a lot of common parts with pulsar series (P220 / P180 UG4) hence spare availability in remote while touring is good []

        1) Ride quality is good on high ways but avenger does not have best suspension and definately lags to ThunderBird here

        2) Better than ThunderBird

        3) In mileage as well, Avenger scores better.

        4) I will give equal marks to Avenger and ThunderBird here

Now in my scoring, Avenger scores better here. BUT if you have a good healthy spine and will do some touring as well, and for overall cruiser impression and bike feel, I will recommend ThunderBird.
