  • Help me choose between: Bandit|Monster|CB1000R

    Hello fellows

I'm out to buy myself a good naked import below 10 lakhs. I cannot extend my budget above 10 lakhs so no point suggesting anything above that.

Im from bombay and I have seen everything on offer which includes the harley 883 series, the monster, bandit and the CB1000R.

Im not a big fan of HD so the 883's are out of the question. I intend to do some serious riding, mostly touring so the HD isn't the right bike to be shod with panniers and a top box.

The honda CBR is too outlandish for my taste and given a choice, i'd stay away from it.

That leaves me with the Monster and the Bandit.

My mind says the bandit but my heart favours the Monster. Im looking for present owners to help me out here. Could you please enlighten me on the rideability, service and maintenance cost and the practicality aspects of the bandit and the monster?

    All the inputs/suggestions are appreciated.

CB1000R is the best pic of the lot. Have you spent time with it in the flesh?

Bandit - most practical and user friendly. Looks like it came in a time machine from the 80s.

Monster - Right now I wouldn't touch Ducati until they up the ante when it comes to servicing these bikes. Dealers are just not competent enough.

With my height at 169 cms I find the Bandit top heavy especially on difficult terrain with broken tarmac.

Riding the Monster is a breeze.

However I do feel that the Bandit is better equipped to tour than the Monster.
The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

but some say monster is not for ideal in indian condition because it is air cooled and not LC one.. and also in my opinion FZ1 or the CB1000r is the best for the inline sound u get.. if suppose i am wrong very sorry...

torn between suzukibandit and honda cb1000r

                    Good afternoon,
gentlemen i would like to say a few words about my interests.Im a 53yr old doctor and riding since age 17(yezdi250) and my hobby is astrophotography. My other hobby used to be biking and i owned a yezdi 250 from 1976 to 1984 , a RD350 from 1984 to 2006, in between i did have cbr 400 and 600 for sometime .Im not a track day kind of person but i love riding/driving fast for eg ive done 484 km in 4 hrs on my vento(last year) and 550 km in 7 hrs on a single road on my 350D . im pretty fit but a family of speed freaks. My wife or daughter or son will frequently occupy the rear seat.
If money was not an issue which would be a better bike?, the Yamaha Fz1 would be ruled out as most reviews show fuel injection issues have not been perfected under 6000 rpm, i dont want to own a twin anymore so Ducati is ruled out.
Iwill be riding a CB1000r today and bandit next week, the difference in price(does not matter) and i would get to feel both the bikes.
Pls tell me why choose the cb 1000 r or Bandit 1250s based on your knowledge and experience in motorcycling. Kindly note the rear seat on the cb 1000 looks very small, so in spite of that is it so much more a pleasure to ride a cb 1000r over a bandit.?
                    Thanks
                    Dr.Suresh

Doc - the CB1000 feels like a premium product. The quality is very very good indeed. Brakes are pretty damn good and there is very little to complain about in this bike except perhaps rear-end grip in the wet. It felt a little more squirrelly in the wet and on concrete than some of the other bikes I've ridden. This was the 2009 model and maybe they've sorted this out for the new one.

The Bandit, for all it's virtues, is not a looker and in many areas the build quality was definitely below my expectations. The brakes and clutch levers feel agricultural and have a "domestic bike" feel to them. If you can ditch all those factors aside the Bandit will take you anywhere and run on pretty much anything. The CB1000R is happier with 97 octane and premium fuels than anything else.

Fundamentally it boils down to how you want to use this bike...

The occasional quick blast to the Cafe or Gym? Or the occasional quick blast to far flung places in India?
