  • Bigger Bike For Commuting

    Hi Friends,

I have been reading all the 'What Bike' section to find an answer before posting this so please help with your expert opinion.
After 3 years of saving my money by driving a splendor, I am planning to buy a bigger bike,

    About Me:
    Height : 5.10
    Weight : 60 Kgs
    Living City:Chennai

    My Requirement are as follows:
    1) Comfortable City ride(60km up and down in traffic)
    2) Should be Comfortable for my Saree Clad Pillion Rider(Occasional within-City rides)
    3) Mileage 30+
    4) High Speed (I am not for it, just occasional 100's and stress free engine at 80 would do)
    5) Planning to keep the vehicle at least for 5 years before switching to a cage(car) as a regular mode to commute

    Here is My Question:
My Budget is good enough for an R15, I would like to drive one of the following
    1) R15(Though I like the looks and the technology wherever i read an article it gives more appreciation to speed and handling , But very little about rider comfort and pillion rider comfort)
    2) Karizma-R(Avoiding ZMR because I am lean and it would look funny if i ride it)
    3) FZ-16(Comfort of my pillion rider is bothering me)
    4) Unicorn(No Dislikes other than 5 months waiting period and the normal bike look, my brother rides one for 2 years and its good)
    5) Dazzler(No Dislikes other than 3 months waiting period, looks not impressive for me)

Right now I am more oriented towards Karizma-R(mainly because engine reliability, bigger bike look, its rarely seen in chennai 5/100 bikes are karizma-r's in chennai)

I am planning to buy it by coming Feb, so please advice and help me out.

      Hi,
If you feel you look lean on ZMR...
      Go for Karizma-R straightaway

The rising petrol prices burn your pocket not your riding soul!

Zma is definetly a good choice, but do check with the spare availabilty in your area because we have seen our fellow xbhpians dying hard to get the sparesmore than 3-4 months waiting period for the sparesAfter the split up with the Honda situation is more worser. So if you are taking zma dont fall/crash/bang

            @Mods:Thanks for the approval
@Cursedcrusader & Xionite Thanks Guys for the quick advice,
karizma-R mileage seems to be inconsistent throughout this forum It starts from 25 to 45 But i would expect atleast a 30+
Though the mileage depends a lot on the driving style and on maintenance(assuming i drive in a sane manner).
            Would you still recommend her.

Assuming ZMR and ZMA share the same power train and most of the parts , i am assuming the parts availability issue should be sorted out (Thanks for all the fellas buying ZMR)

depends on how u ride it.

25kmph - 45kmph is for a wide spectrum of riding styles.

if you ride the bike keeping mileage in mind.
                you definitely get 35kmpl+

                easy!

Why not the GS150R or pulsar?? They are also good bikes satisfying your requirements.

Not to Offend any one,I strongly feel Pulsar's Quality is not up to the mark
But 'GS150R' will definitely give a Test Drive

Common man pulsar sets the modern standard for the 150cc range

and most of them try to compare their bikes with pulsar

pulsars are named as bad quality bikes but to the best of my knowledge its on par with other 150cc bikes

try a test drive on pulsar and test its quality tooo it wont cost you anything apart from time

Karizma ZMR the best choice for you....
I would have recommended you the Fz-16 for occasional 100s and stress free
at 80 but fz is not a friend to the saree clad pillion and the rider at that time....

i wouldnt say to go for r15 because of the sporty seating style which might
again bring loads of pain on the wrists on long rides with a pillion...

@Guys:Thanks for all the clarifications so far

Since I am not in india currently,I almost asked my brother to book one ZMA in chennai Adayar Motors(Coz of the waiting time 2 months). But after reading these I felt like Test driving FZ16,GS150 and the pulsar.

So hierarchy of my options has changed like this now
                            ZMA
                            FZ16
                            GS150
                            ZMR
                            Pulsar

Any Idea on the waiting period on FZ16 and GS150 in Chennai?
                            One more Question
Does the FZ's nowadays Come with a kicker like this

                            http://i1105.photobucket.com/albums/...y/IMG_0504.jpg

Or is it optional that we can install a kickstart kit latter on as an addition through Service centers

Nope it doesnt come with any kicker. I was present in the special midnight edition only.

And from the bikes you have mentioned i would suggest to choose between FZ16, ZMA or GS150R
