@DeepMetal - do share your long ride experience on Bullet - What went wrong?
I have heard people having troubles in city traffic but it is unheard of to say that Bullets/ Enfields - AVL/ CI are not meant for long rides .

I have no trouble with my electra in my town and on city(kochi).just that ,this is not a inital torque master to wheelie out from green signal.always practice using neutral finder lever .it comes very useful.also ,DONT switch off your bull on traffic signals.bull simply dont like that!

Deep metal I respect what you say that they are utterly impractical for touring please try to elaborate instead of making a lame comment here. It’s not that I am a Bulleter and I am being hurt or whatever here and I really don’t want to create this tread another place of bullet lovers and bullet hatters please. Only thing that we want is respect for the old stead. for god’s sake it’s a more than 50 year old technology hanging out there what else do you expect do you really expect your dad or grand dad to run and cover a mile the way you would be able to sir. So please think before you make a comment

and believe it or not most of the tourers in this country ride a bullet when it comes to touring, XBHP has not yet become so great or such a platform to attract all these wanderers. How many times have you seen a GORA hiring a ZMA or a PULSAR for his trips when he comes to India. I don’t deny that they do hire those bikes. But still around 90+ % they go for a bullet... I am sure not just because they are UTTERLY IMPRACTICAL FOR THE LONG RIDES.

Again I have had my share of problems with my bullet if I have to write a story about the whole thing and my experience with the bullet you would be amazed... and think what exactly it that this man is still holding it on for is. But I have been extremely happy over all...

@Underground rider: See we have been attached with the bullet for a longtime. With me it’s like I have 2 bullets. One is a STD and other is an Electra. With the Electra no problems at all apart from the normal maintenance a bullet would need. But with the Standard I have seen 3 engines rebuilds with in the first year of the ownership. 5 new pistons and loads an other stuff. But this does not make my bike or the bullet standard a sh*t bike. It’s just that we were not really lucky with that bike. I have seen bullets with 50K km on dial still going strong never had no problems with the head and piston and all that stuff. But again bullets are really not easy to live with bikes. They would give you problems now and then. Also the misconception that bullet is cheap to repair needs to go cause they are not. But believe me they for sure are easy to repair.

always keep in the corner of the mind for one thing - Oil Level. Bullet needs proper oil level and Once the level is a little low ,Oilpump *may* not work properly which means obvious seize.

I had my suzuki fiero(almost 7 years!) which was abused such a way that you dont believe!no oil changes,no maintanence.that reliability cannot be expected from bullet.bullet wants attention unlike other bikes.afterall ,it is a 6 decade old technology.

                +1, bang on.

Although, Deep bhai, not to be offensive but I feel that Bullets are not very expensive, at least not the CI ones. They are definitely not the cheapest but are also not the top of the rack ones. With those kinds of problems, any bike would demand a lot of money. I remember a friend who had a Shogun, & it's piston costed him Rs.1600. In college a close friend of mine had some trouble with his crank & bearings & his Pulsar's engine had to be opened, total bill amount was around 5K.

You are rite we just got a new kit for our electra thats a 2002 model was on 2nd over size and another seizure got it a new kit all these years it has done around 75K kms no problems nothing. and regarding the 500 kit even that is avaiable but it is around 5000or 8k not sure about that the only thing that puts me off from converting my bike in to a 500 or even buying a 500 Ci is that there are no over size pistons in the market at all. this means if the piston is gone you are gone and setback by atleast 5K

As per what I learnt from my mechanic, a this costing would come with a new kit, maybe a little more, but then it's way too much for something involving a rebore. Like you said, it probably includes a lot of things, like even the gearbox or something but I am sure this will be the cost with a new kit.

I had enquired about this back when I was getting a Lightning 535, & this is what I was told by most mechanics, some said a little higher & some lower, but all with a new kit.

As for my friend, he did not get a rebuild, I was just speaking of the cost without the rebuild, just some work at the big end.
