  • 1st post... Help to choose my 1st bike.

    Hello Guys,

My 1st post on xbhp. I am Dhruv Patel. B.Tech Civil Engg.
Planning to buy my 1st bike in 2 months.

I love Royal Enfield, nothing else.... but, because of my financial condition I can not afford it.
So, I am choosing bike from 150cc category.
    Which should have
    1. Price range 60000 to 70000.
    2. Silky smooth & low maintenance Engine.
    3. Descent mileage and little bit style.
    4. Comfort.

I am 5'7" and 79 kgs. Mainly driving in City, No long rides generally. I am not speed maniac.

    I don't want to buy
    1. Yamaha FZ (less comfort, low mileage, high price)
    2. TVS Apache (less comfort, low mileage)
    3. Bajaj Pulsar (bad reviews about performance after 2-3 year, Very common)

    I am considering
    1. Suzuki GS150
    2. Hero Honda CBZ Xtreme (I think new model out, isn't it?)
    3. Honda CB Dazzler

Not sure about Hero honda Hunk and Honda CB Unicorn.

    HELP......!!!!!
    High Hopes......

    Query approved.

I think the Unicorn fits your bill. Comfortable, stylish, reliable, and decent fuel economy.

Out of the three bikes shortlisted, dazzler is the best.

          get the SZ-R
the OTR prices of the 3 bikes you mentioned would cross 70k.

Suzuki GSR : It has 6th gear and very useful for cruising & also gives good mileage. Make sure about service stations are quite close to your location.

CBZ Xtreme : The new one may be delayed a bit I guess, they may release once all old once are sold off or HH may plan to release after much awaited new Pulsar series. If you have time it's worth waiting for it, it's a great machine, you can rip, cruise or commute.

Honda Dazzler : Great package, personally I feel it's on costlier side by 5K, test ride it and see if suits you.

Unicorn : All rounder, the best

Hero Honda Hunk : Long term reviews suggest Hunk is great bike, one of my colleague owns first batch Hunk and has experienced lowest maintainence & also 50+ mileage almost consistently.

If I were you I would go with GSR or CBZ Xtreme ! Test ride all the bikes in your list these bikes are technically even and it's just matter of personal choice & other consideration like ASS, personal comfort etc.

Ya, I read many reviews that FZ has low comfort, specially for a long ride..
              Pillion comfort is also low.

its good that you have narrowed down on the bikes according to your purpose i.e. daily commutation.now you have tn do the td of gs150 and szr in my view.you have to alsodo some research on after sales service of these manufacturers.reviews of gs and szr have been good but if you go with cbzx 2011 or dazzler then you have to wait for months.you said you have 2 months so may wait for new cbzx

Out of the bike you short listed every bike might exceed your budget by the time you bring it to your home, including accessories like leg guard, and saree guard and number plate too (Honda doesnt provide these for free, they charge for this things)

I would suggest you to have have look at SZ-R, a very good offering by Yamaha, less than 65 K onroad, I got my SZ R in 63500/- in Mumbai, only fitted leg guard for 500 bucks, Yamaha provide Saree Guard and Number plate both. Take a test ride, I am sure you will like it, on the other hand this bike doesnt have digital console, no passlight, no trip meter. But according to me this bike a complete Value for money. Very good for city commuting, took it to highway on couple of occasion, touched 95 kmph with minimal vibs I completed second service, and I go to SVC just for servicing and nothing else. So far it is good, I know it will get better.

Second option that would fit into your budget is Discover 150, cant tell you much about it but this bike has got excellent mileage, thats what I know.

I would suggest you to take TD of SZ-R and Discover 150. Also as other member suggested GS150R, take a test ride, you are the only one decide what suits you better.

One personal suggestion, note down your all requirement, TD ride the bikes you short listed, find out which suits you better and to your pocket and go for it.

                  Keep us posted.

                  Cheers!

                      Thanks guys

                      Thank you guys...!!

@lsp2310 : I would prefer to buy CB Unicorn over SZ-R

Can you guys please tell me more about Suzuki GS150?

                      1. How are the reviews of Suzuki Engine? Is it trustworthy?
                      2. If 6th gear is only for high ways and cruising... then is it effect mileage of the bike if we continue to ride it on 5th gear in city?
                      3. I heard that due to its bulkiness it is difficult to drive it in city traffic, is it true?
                      High Hopes......

Change your pic/avatar from your control panel..for which you can see attached pic..

& as per your query, ya GS150 is a good bike & as you said that its a bit heavy so it'll be difficult to maneuver it in traffic but you'll get used to it very soon..Engine is trustworthy..it return decent mileage figures as well..all in all its a good bike to have..

                            Unicorn

Go for the Unicorn. It has a good resale value and ticks all of your boxes. Hunk and CBZ are good, but the gear shifts are not as smooth as a Unicorn's.

You won't go wrong with either of these.

                              4. I heard that due to its bulkiness it is difficult to drive it in city traffic, is it true?
                              1. Unicorn is segment best, close your eyes and go for it, however there could be minor niggles in initial period in few Unicorns (5%), but they get ironed out over a period of time.
                              2. Suzuki engines are very good, see how Fiero/Max100 are designed, they last long and are well designed.
                              3. You can use 6th gear above 45kmph as well, no issues, no jerks. XTP makes it smoother at lower speed as well even in higher gear.
                              4. Test ride and see if suits you.

Final word : Go for Unicorn
