I own a shine. Pillion comfort great. Ride in the city great. Mileage around 55, so that also fine. But when u get to the highway, after sometime u might want something a bit more. At least that fifth gear.
If the gladiator is still available, go for it

Thanks for your inputs friends...
I already stretched my budget to accommodate shine...so no SZR, though it looks good. Gladiator looks like a better option.
I read in some review that Discover is not comfortable for tall persons...is that so? I am keeping D150 as a option though i am little skeptical about it.
iso2310, sphinx88 : relieved to see support for shine..does it take more than 2 months
making another round in net for/against these bikes. if you have any please post it here. Have only couple of days to make a decision

Shine is a good machine but I wouldn't have waited for 2 or more months for it. It's not something phenomenal and doesn't offer anything special. Has only 4 gears so it may not be very good on highways and for touring.
I can say all this because I own a Stunner which has the same engine as Shine and despite having 5 gears, it vibrates a lot around 60Kmph.
I don't know how good the SS125 is or the very recently launched Discover 125 is...do test drive all these bikes and take a decision. One thing is sure though, you can expect > 55 Kmpl from all these bikes.Signals which are timed for 50 Kmph are also timed for 100 Kmph :)

Yamaha produces equally good bikes in terms of build quality and materials used. So does Hero Honda. These days, Bajaj too is producing very good products...Originally posted by maddycbz View PostyES man Almost all Honda bikes have a long wait period, bt its worth the wait considering the reliability
I own a Honda machine but don't think that others are bad at all...
So let's just stop praising Honda bikes blindly and give others the fair credit that they deserve...
In my personal opinion, Yamaha is producing even better products than Honda in terms of quality...just my personal opinion...Signals which are timed for 50 Kmph are also timed for 100 Kmph :)

And these days, I'm beginning to believe that HMSI is creating a false demand. Just see the waiting period for a decade old technology scooter!!! Can't believe that HMSI is not ramping up the production.Skill is what keeps you on a Motorcycle

Most of these threads seem to be between Honda-Yamaha, Honda-Bajaj, Honda-HH
But since the TS is specifically looking for a 125cc, have you even considered the Suzuki Slingshot? Ofcourse A.S.S. of Suzuki is an issue in many places, but it's actually the smoothest 125cc out in the market. No vibrations felt even at speeds of over 70.
The Shine, though a Honda product, doesn't quite feel the same as other Honda machines. I'd rather you go with other options than stick to a Honda Shine. If there was no waiting period, then that's another matter. Some of the Happiest people in the world don't have everything. They just make the best of everything life brings their way !!! First they said they've started building one near Hyderabad. And then they said, they are scouting for land in Karnataka... According to a news report, they say that the Manesar plant has a capacity of 2000 Activa's per day. I am hoping they sell it only in India and are not exporting. If so, I wonder how many they are selling per day to warrant a six month waiting period. Some of the Happiest people in the world don't have everything. Well they are selling around 60k activas every month, yeah, thats true!!
Coming to the topic.. it's good that you considered Yamaha SS125, it's a very good bike, much much better than Shine in my opinion. Personally, I wouldn't buy a 4-geared machine, which vibrates a lot at around 60kmph, that too after spending 60k+ on it. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't give any problems, but quality is not the only thing we look for in bikes. Shine doesn't score too well in other categories such as road grip, handling & top end performance.
Suzuki Slingshot is also a good option, provided service centers are not far away from your place.
And yeah, Disco 125 is another good option, I wouldn't rate it's top end at the same level as Yamaha SS125, but it's got reasonable top end (read 80kmph without vibrations) and it returns good mileage.Let's bring down the monster of corruption to it's knees.. please visit http://ipaidabribe.com/

@ Thread Starter : Brother, all we are trying to say is that Honda produces good quality products without a doubt but that doesn't mean that other manufacturers don't...
I would never want to wait for as long as 2 months for something like a Shine or a Unicorn (which has an even longer waiting period) just for the sake of buying a Honda.
Test drive SS125, Discover 125, HH Glamour, Discover 150, Suzuki Slingshot and any other 125cc bike you may have in mind...then take an informed decision.
From whatever experience I have with bikes, I can tell you that these are all decent machines. I am a little inclined towards the Discover 150 though considering your budget. Of course the SS125 is equally good. Good luck..let us know what you finalize
