  • Please help me decide in buying a bike!

    Friends,
This is a great forum. I have also decided to buy a bike. Have been planning since a long time but now its high time for me to do so!
I am around 5 Ft 9" & 80 Kg approx. My budget might vary according to the requirements. Anything less than 70k is fine provided it fits extremely well into my requirement.

    My requirement:

Should give very good mileage if not excellent (Expecting min 55-60 consistently)
I am compromising above for some good looks as well and not just an ordinary commuter.
Also looking for a resale value after 5 yrs (This is not that imp though)
Most importantly, it should be of low maintenance & highly reliable engine like my current 2001 model splendor!
Bike shouldn't be that heavy as am afraid I can't handle them especially, when I try to put a centre stand
The overall feel of bike should be a perfect balance and not "larger than meets the eye" appeal.

I have ruled out the below already:

    Stunner
Shine (I know this is good bike but can't bear it anymore, IMO. No offense to any owners pls)
    Passion & passion pro
SS125 (I know its superb, but some how didn't like the design)
Super Splendor (For being an ordinary looking bike)
No Bajaj Bikes please (Had some bad exp for my frinds and I personally don't really like them inspite of their excellent mileage)

    Bearing the above,

Does it make sense I see in 125 cc only? If so, can i check out new HH glamor? I think slingshot is as good as this.
I am also liking unicorn but it doesn't have any latest goodies as other bikes and its still 70k when others are giving extras as well as the same quality. Still I might prefer it provided it gives a good mileage.

    I always maintain 40-60 speed.

          vibes!!

have been around for so long, reliable but really pathetic performance/mileage combo by today's standards. Not to mention creepy plastic rattles. Also whats the point in buying same engine with different plastics
SS125 (I know its superb, but some how didn't like the design)
          You should consider it
Super Splendor (For being an ordinary looking bike)
I wont recommend this as I own one. better if we dont talk about performance. Mileage is not great too.
No Bajaj Bikes please (Had some bad exp for my frinds and I personally don't really like them inspite of their excellent mileage)
hmm.. cant comment on your friends bikes but you should definitely try new Pulsar 135. bloody good machine for its size and price. Its 4V and beats most of the 150cc's in performance giving you mileage of a proper 125cc.

Does it make sense I see in 125 cc only? If so, can i check out new HH glamor? I think slingshot is as good as this.
HH Glamour is basically a Super splendor with different styling AFAIK. About the slingshot, I rarely see these on roads so I guess resale value will be a concern. And unicorn is good bike but as you said there are better ones too!
So bikes you should tryout are SS125, SZ, Discover 150 and Pulsar135. Test ride and find what fits you best

          My bet is on P135

guess the SZ-X or SZ-R is the only thing that suits your requirements and haven't been ruled out.
The Unicorn/Dazzler are also worth considering even though they overshoot your budget by a couple of grands

You have already ruled out most of the options!! well the remaining ones for you are Suzuki GS150R/ Yamaha SZ series/Honda Dazzler

I think you can go for GS150R, gives sedate performance and many claim mileage above 50, though this is marginal compromise compared to the expected mileage, it has all the goodies you expect from a bike. Same is the case with Dazzler, it will also give you a mileage of 50 and has all the goodies you look for in a bike. While the Yamaha SZ is not at the same level, but it lacks in goodies too.

But do consider SS125/P135LS, they suit your requirements in the best possible manner. P135LS is the best VFM machine available out there, i've had a good experience for 10 months with this bike. I'll surely recommend this.

                55-60 kmpl ?
You are 80 kilos, so 150cc is the best bet, in 150cc the best mileage is given by GSR, else you can go for evergreen UNICORN

Mine is a separate query but with the similar subject that's y i dint opt for a separate thread(yes im a conservationist) but first of all i would like to thank all the xbhpians including the mods of this site for setting up such an awesome database which is interactive as well as informative. in past couple of days i have gained loads of useful infos and keen insights about biking for which im really grateful. I realized that my knowledge about bikes a few days ago was nothing more than the fact that it has 2 wheels

Now the query. Well im buying a bike in 150CC segment in about a week or so, and i have zeroed upon Yamaha FZ16. i have read all what i could about the bike, the pros and the cons. i know mileage is not its forte but im fine with it as im limited to city driving.
a few things which i am worried about include :-

                  1. Bends in rear tyre rim and the quality of rear tyre, have heard that its not tops and gives lot of headache.

                  2. Credibility of tubeless tyre, i mean are they really hassle free just like they are advertized coz i have read just the opposite.

                  3. Resale value if any?

                  4. and since im buying this bike from SETCO YAMAHA, Patel Nagar, Delhi, a little bit about their after sales services and customer care will be really helpful

Looking forward to some helpful thots against my first post

                  Cheers

The quality of the rear tire is decent.
the tyre is prone to punctures if used offroad...shudnt be a problem for you as u need it only for city riding
resale value of FZ or for that case any yamaha bike is very good....if mileage is not a problem then go for it...

Thanks a lot everyone for their suggestions. GS150 is very heavy for me as I tried. Yes even I have considered SZ-R machine for its price, but everyone who owns it here have a crappy mileage of around 45 at the Maximum!

New HH glamour is a super splendour engine but still its a 125 cc heart equipped with some goodies. IMO, its better looking than other 125 cc as of now except stunner which is not suited for me. My other option is twister, but what about that? Though sling shot is not seen more on roads, I have seen happy reviews of it. Please confirm?

Unicorn is evergreen but it is over priced as of now, IMO with good old goodies. But still i can give it a try but its horrible waiting time of 2 mnths kicks me. I am strictly out of bajaj bikes pls. I understand they r fabulous in an angle, but not for me. Please suggest the cons & +s of the below:

                            HH Glamour
                            Unicorn
                            Twister
                            SZ-R
                            Slingshot

Thanks mate. But I wouldn't really stress on the "performance" level. It is enough for me if it makes a perfect balance between the mileage & ride. I don't go more than 60 except in an urgency which is rare for me, and also, i don't ride more than 30 km a day. Am zeroing down on one of these:

SZ-R (Less mileage I heard), Unicorn or Dazzler in 150cc (Heard Dazzler ain't good and its not upto mark of unicorn?) So possibly unicorn but its Over priced for its goodies in current situation IMO.
HH Glamour, slingshot in 125 cc?
                              Or twister

Please help me in giving the pros & cons as am really confused.
