  • Bajaj Pulsar135LS Vs Yamaha SS125 Vs Yamaha SZ-X150

    Hi friends,

I am planning to buy a new bike. I have listed down my requirements. I have also narrowed down my choice to 3 bikes as given in the title. I am confused between them. Please help me choose one.

    My requirement:
    [1] Good pickup => 125-150 cc
    [2] Commuter => Daily I need to travel 20 kms (To+From)
[3] Decent Mileage => Not lesser than 50kmpl
[4] Good Comfort => Better seats and suspension
    [5] Stylish => I am just 22yr old
[6] Light in weight => Easy to handle in traffic
    [7] Price => Approximately Rs.60,000

Based on the research I done by reading reviews, I am summarizing the pros and cons of the three bikes

    [1] Bajaj Pulsar135LS [Price: Rs.60,600 on-road Chennai]
    Pros:
    a) Good Pickup 13.5bhp
    b) Good Mileage 55+ kmpl (any condition)
    c) Very Stylish (LCD console, LED Tail lamps, Grab rails, etc)
    d) Light in weight (Only 122 kg, So easy handling)
    e) Disk breaks
    Cons:
    a) Many complain about poor comfort because of Hard seats and poor suspension
    b) Many people said that the seating poster of pulsar (sporty) will give back pain and wont suitable for commuters.
    c) The rear view of the bike gives a feeling that some thing is missing and is not up to everybody's liking.
    d) Bajaj lacks quality and reliability compared to Yamaha

    [2] Yamaha SZ-X150 [Price Rs.60,000 approx on-road Chennai]
    Pros:
    a) Good Pickup (though lesser than p135)
    b) Yamaha claims a mileage of 62+ kmpl but hope to get 55+ kmpl onroad.
    c) Muscular and Aggressive design - Solid body
    d) Good comfort assured by Yamaha.
    e) Light in weight though heavier than p135 (132kg)
    f)Yamaha quality and reliability
    Cons:
    a) Absence of disk breaks
    b) Absence of goodies like LCD console, LED Tail lamp, Split grab rails, etc,
    c) Poor After sales service and poor resale value of Yamaha
    d) Mileage not sure of 55+kmpl

    [3] Yamaha SS125 [Price Rs.57,550 on-road Chennai]
    Pros:
    a) Good pickup
    b) Sporty design
    c) Good comfort
    d) Light in weight (125 kg)
    e) Yamaha quality and reliability
    f) Disk breaks
    Cons:
    a) Mileage only 50+ kmpl ( lesser compared to other two)
    b) Absence of goodies like LCD console, LED Tail lamp, Split grab rails, etc,
    c) Narrow rear Tyre (Slippery during rainy season)
    d) Poor After sales service and poor resale value of Yamaha
    56
    Bajaj Pulsar135LS
    35.71%
    20
    Yamaha SZ-X150
    48.21%
    27
    Yamaha SS125
    16.07%

    Did you check the Gladiator?

Go for bajaj pulsar 135ls, I am not a fan of bajaj but I would say this is a exceptional good quality product from bajaj.

4valves assures excellent pickup with out sacrificing mileage.
Their is no complaints on quality just refer the ownership thread.

Its not in to the monotonous look of pulsars this bike has deferent style and attractive looks
Do check and try test drive

Pulsar 135 has better pickup as compared to the SS125/Gladiator. It is also smaller and lighter. Couple that with the sporty stance it is more flickable through heavy traffic. Your doubts about Bajaj quality are misplaced. The 135 doesnt feel cheap in any way. Spares will be easily available. The only downside I can see is that it isn't as comfortable as the SS125 owing to its seat.
The SS125/Gladiator has better brakes compared to the P135. Both front and rear. It is also more comfortable of the two especially if you are tall. The old Gladiator looked as conventionally correct as possible. The paintjob of the new SS125 is an eyesore for me. If you like it,go right ahead.
Downsides:Spares are hard to find. And mileage takes a severe hit whenever you do a bit of 'sporty' riding. Lots of owners are facing rusting issues so I dont agree on Yamaha quality part.
Do go through the Gladiator thread and P135 ownership threads. Take a test ride and go for what your heart tells you.

I believe you have already eliminated SZ-X, if not I would say eliminate it.. 132kgs is no way light.. and it'll be a pain in stop-go bumper to bumper traffic. Go through ownership threads and then take a test ride of SS125 & P135 and then take a decision.

My vote goes to P135LS (I own one).

The p135. Its a really really great little bike. You'll just love to rip it above 8-9k's. Power delivery is like that of R15's. and surprisingly it handles pretty well unlike the other pulsies.

Stunner has the looks and rides good only when ridden slow. A lot of vibes creep in when you rev it up. it struggles after 70-75kmph. Go for this only if you hate the other two.

I wont recommend you SZ. Its plastic's quality is not up to the mark like other yamaha's. although I haven't ridden it but took a close look last week when visited yamaha showroom to book a R15. Literally saying front mudguard was like made of paper . Well... cost cutting sucks.

If I were u, I'd have chosen p135. It looks fairly good and is amazingly powerfull. Spares are easy to find
Annnd... I love the look on a fazer/fz guy's face when I overtake him .

                      ..Cheers..

Actually its the other way round. The SZ's torque is much better & comes at a relatively lower rpm which makes it the best for city riding. Its not that good on a highway. But it is heavy when compared with others.

I will make it clear for you.

If you want cheaper initial investment, comfort, touring capabilities, refinement, mileage then go for SS125.

If you want a better top end, cheaper spares, light weight, easy to handle & a city bike then go for p135. It is a wild beast.

If you want a bike with best pulling power, 150cc engine, mileage, comfort then go for the SZ.

My vote would be for the SS125.

He asked for daily commuting (to and fro 20 kms) so P135LS is good for that

For 300+ Kms i would say No to P135LS, even if you have a strict budget try some top end 150cc tourer like Suzuki GS150R

or try ZMR or 220 or apache 180

AFAIK, SS125 costs almost same as P135LS.. correct me if i'm wrong!! I was talking from weight perspective about SZ-X!! assuming that in a bumper to bumper traffic scenario balancing the bike becomes quite a task, if the bike is light it'll be that much easier to do it, .. anyways with P135LS you only need to rev it a bit more and that's fun!!
