hey guys....guess what!!!
Dad gives green flag to fz-16
went to yamaha today for enquiring about price and availability. price is 74000/-(approx.) on-road
and their lot is full of bikes so no need of booking.
i'm gonna buy it in a week or two(birthday next week
).
so what things should i keep in mind while selecting bike from the lot b'coz its my first ever bike and i really dont have that much technical-mechanical knowledge
.
plus i wanted to know about teflon coating(is it realy worth 500 bucks
)
they have included it in price
and the rest are for RC, insurance, temporary number etc.etc.
and i'm confused about colour....black or red....

Since when did the weight and geometry of the bike decide the chances of accidents?Originally posted by vinchel View Postperformance and handling : Out of the above 4, the best handling is offered by Fz and Unicorn... The Fz is more of a mid-end torque monster, meaning it brings out its best performance in the middle range making it the best choice for cities. Handling is also good with the bike weighting less than 130kg, chances of accidents or out of control are absolutely nil. The other 3 weigh more.
That should go to the NEWS thread. Believe you me, it will cause ruckus in the biking fraternity. For speed above 80, only the Apache performs as the FZ is not comfortable, Unicorn and Hunk develops vibrations. But Apache falters in the handling department
Again !!If Fz, mileage at 40-45kmpl city and highway, Yamaha's not-that-much-bad-service, Good handling and less risks of accident. Braking is the safest of all the above.
More than the advice it seems your justification for your purchase!FZ s is a waste of money....Just a visor and different paint streaks and 3k extra...
So I chose a Fz-16, black in September 2009 and since then I have ridden it for around 10k km. Not even a single accident or scratch and I feel its the safest 150cc bike... Mileage minimum - 33kmpl (ripping at 90-100km/hr)
Maximum - 51kmpl ( 45-50 km/hr in 4 laned highway)....If you ride like there's no tomorrow...worry not there won't be!

if i were you i would hv preferred fz-s instead of hunk although it has somewhat less mileage but the diffrence is not much it is just about 4- 5 kmpl less which can be compromised yamaha prvides better quality in comprsn to hero honda or now herocorp. anywyz think twice before purchasing. hope it helps

teflon coating is just a gimmick and a normal wash costing 150 bucks will give you the same shine..its personal experience!
buy the lava red..its a real hot color and eye catcher too!!just my opinion
Our bikes can go from 0 - Stupid in less than "I wonder if this will be a good idea"

Unicorn Dazzler all the way
Unicorn Dazzler is better one for you. Since your college going guy and you need FE, you should first remove FZ from your list. Hunk I dont blv since future of Hero is in doubt. Unicorn Dazzler has the performance and would give you 40-44kmpl mileage. Engine is most refined and power is also good. Nice pickup. dont go for old Unicorn as its dated.Whats there in a signature?

Enthu your answers are always biased towards Bajaj and Honda. We should encourage the best bikes from all manufacturer.Originally posted by Enthusiastic View PostUnicorn Dazzler is better one for you. I accept that FZ has low FE but what you say for its handling, riding comfort, has very good grunt for city ride, road presence ....
It is the first bike that opened the gate for naked bikes in India and even today's pulsar 200NS, KTM Duke are following its route.
Dazzler shares the same engine what Unicorn and Hero Hunk has but has tuned for some more performance.
For a college going person FZ will be the right choice if he is not concerned about FE it will give between 35-45 Kmpl.
Hunk also have good proportion but when compared to FZ it is FZ which wins easily....

grow up dear...Its not about growing up. Its about why Hero did not grow up when Honda were opening HMSI in 2005. The contract with Honda expires at the end of 2014 after which Hero would not be able to use the Honda engines they used to gather sales. So wasn't it the creditibility of Honda upon which they were counting upon. What about a guy who buys a Hero product in 2013? Can you guarantee what will happen to his products future? Won't it be replaced by hero-AVL engines which ofcourse won't come even 50% near to Honda's older engine. So why not to buy newer engines from Honda itself?Originally posted by sayank10 View Postright.

I don't understand what is the base of the people for being too confident about EBR & AVL. Every foreign company does not make "good" engines necessarily. EBR just produces litre class racing products for AMA national racing and it just lags behind all the other bikes. They don't know what a general mass production bikes are which Hero used to produce. Coming to AVL the company is known for making some equiments like water-pumps etc. It is also make good Diesel engines for Cars and the mHawk engine in Scorpio is a good proven example. They are the company which cheated Bajaj's DTSi Technology to produce engines for bikes like TVS Flame DDS (Double Spark) and RE 350 Twin Spark which are unsuccesssful in the market. Even their wikipedia page have no mention about their relation to bikes. So its baseless to be confident about them without any base or history. Apart from that Hero are wasting money as always. Before they used to shoot ads using filmstars, sponsor bollywood events, TV serials etc. And now they are sponsoring EBR's (unsuccessful) racing events just to have a name on their bikes. It was better if they concentrated on R&D like Bajaj started to do from 1998 onwards. Its late for Hero to quote the fact.
Have you posted a single bike advice with no SS125 or SZR or FZ names in your nay post. I have recommended Fazer to some people. Of course personal choice and criteria will come while recommending. If a guy comes and says he just wants the best stylish 150cc bike. I would recommend him Fazer which is arguably the best looking Indian bike.Originally posted by Dinesh.P View PostEnthu your answers are always biased towards Bajaj and Honda. Coming to this post. My friend has bought FZ-S. Hes getting 33kmpl in the city and cost of the FZ is around 78K in Bangalore (Surely overpriced). The cost of free-servicing Fz in which engine oil is changed is around Rs 800. Compared to that Dazzler costs Rs 400 in the same criteria. Dazzler is more refined than FZ to be fair. FZ has better handling but Dazzler is also good. Just becz you own a Yamaha product does not mean for a common man they are pocket friendly and everyone knows it. Otherwise they would be no.1 in the sales. No need to mention they are almost No.6 in India now with Suzuki equalling Yamaha in sales. Now read the TS's requirements again budget max 70K, pocket-friendly, college-going, 40-45kmpl atleast... and think what is the better requirement for him.Whats there in a signature?

I accept it is not pocket friendly and I even own Honda product and my answers will not be biased towards a single product even I love Yamaha's more than anything.
Indian's always look for FE bikes that is the reason Yamaha are not top on sales. They always make reliable and best handling bikes not FE bikes.
I don't want to justify that Yamaha always make perfect products.Last edited by Dinesh.P; 03-22-2012, 01:08 AM.Yamaha RX100 (1993)
