  • 600C Naked Bike

    Hey guys,

After a long time silence reading the forum I would like to post a question, I am looking a imported bike 600CC or less. My budget is max 6 lacs.

I test drove a Suzuki GSR 600 White, it was a 2008 model done about 10K kms, the owner is asking 7.75 lacs, Single owner, MH-06 number & it has DRI Letter (which i don't know what that means)

I am NOT interested in full faired bike, semi-faired would do, but preferably a naked bike.

Anybody know any good bikes & dealers in Mumbai who would stock such bikes.

    Thanks

there a lot of dealers on meera road..... maybe the seniors can tell you which ones are trustworthy and which ones to stay away from........

I personally feel that the GSR owner is asking a bit TOO MUCH than what should be for a street/ naked 600cc, possibly due to the so called DRI letter. Around 6-6.5L maximum should be fine, assuming that the bike is legal and in good condition.

DRI is Department of Revenue Intelligence, of Indian Government. Among many other things and tasks, it monitors and cracks down illegal imports of bikes & cars, either wholly or in parts... This is their website:

              Home Page

A bike legally imported by mode of TR (Transfer of Residence) with full tax paid will always command a higher price (both new and 2nd hand) than a "Grey market" bike.

This guy selling you the GSR, I think he means that he got the DRI approval, which means you can ride it around without having to hide it/ without legal problems. Now, I'm NOT saying that this DRI letter is genuine. This is something you'll have to verify yourself by checking it out.

              --
MY SUGGESTION: Brother, you seem to be new to these imported bikes' world. Forget these individual sellers as they may cheat you, with false DRI/ Tax claims, a screwed up or modified bike or excessive price.

Do one thing, book a brand NEW Ninja 650R from Bajaj Probiking, when its bookings start, then you can get it modified to a naked look, using legal imported parts of another bike, the Kawasaki ER 6n. You can import these parts legally from PRS, Mumbai or KRP, New Delhi.

Under 5 Lacs for the bike + you should get ER6n's naked headlight and setup for around 40,000-50,000. You can sell the fairing back too, to save some money.

That's it. Within 5.5 Lacs, you get an excellent naked bike, which matches your budget,

+ you'll get a good 650cc with 72 PS power, great low end torque, with Euro Spec!
+ Peace of mind with legal insurance, registration,
              + India Kawasaki's Warranty,
+ 100% availability of spares for some more years,

OR Wait couple of more months, and we are expecting ER 6n from India Kawasaki itself, which is a naked version of Ninja 650R.

OR Similarly, you can get a GT 650R from Hyosung and modify it with parts from GT650 from abroad. But, I personally don't recommend GT due to many reasons... It's your choice.

                  @Samarth

I too know that he's asking too much, but i haven't bargained with him yet & i think i should be able to bring it down to 6 lacs when i have the cash in hand.
One thing that sounds fishy is this, the dealer tells me not to transfer the bike in my name, He says no one who buys second hand sports bike will take ownership as that reduces the resell value, plus he says that all his customers buy a lower cc bike used it for a few months & then upgrade to a 1000cc, so i can't be really sure how many owners the bike has had in the last 2 years. but if i still insist he will transfer it to my name, but that would cost a few thousands extra right?
I will off course verify all papers when i buy it, but should i stay away from them because i am not sure how many owners the bike has had in the past. the bike was in condition.... no scratches anywhere except for a small on on back panel, it has the drop protector (or whatever its called) & that shows no sighs of being dropped.

Are we 100% certain that a ER6n Front assembly is a direct fit on the 650R? I am unsure about the price though (unless you have a link) i think it will cost above 80K & remember the speedometer also would have to be changed with an enclosed one. If i book one & then find out that ER6n parts aren't available i'd be stuck with something i don't like.

And I don't think ER6n would launch here either, i read here that the Bajaj-Kawasaki Tie up was for the Ninja series only.

                  No comment for the Hyosung

P.S. This is not just some Random Dealer, I know a couple of guys who have bought from them & i have contacted him through a reliable contact who says they don't deal in lemon's

He bought a YZF-R6 from a dealer who happens to know him personally as a friend too, for about Rs. 8 Lacs few years ago. He can suggest this dealer to you.

And the information about ER6n's front compatibility, I'm quite confident of it as both the bikes have similar engine and frames, although one a faired and other is naked. In fact, Ninja 650R is also known as ER6f in some markets.
I think at the best you might need to get the front's setup (suspension forks, console, headlights, etc.) and this should not be too costly. It will be a new bike, within your budget.

Have a look at both the bikes:

Most of these guys at KRP and PRS are experts at modification. They can do it I'm 95% sure. I suggest you contact them first, then buy the bike later on confirmation:

                        [email protected].

As for this GSR guy, I have no idea what he's asking 6.75 Lacs for? I'd rather get an official legally released 2007-08 R1 (second hand) for that price... In fact, Sunny ji (Site admin) was selling his legal R1 for 8~L which was barely 1-2 yrs old.

And I assert that you don't go for non-transferring of ownership. It will only open few more complications as you won't have insurance on your name. Any accident occurs and you wouldn't be able to present an FIR to Insurance company, as the bike wouldn't be on your name.
And one traffic light checking might land you into problems.

Yes both these bike look fairly similar & i am now hopeful that this will possible. is the ER6n available in the Kawasaki Green color because as far as i know the 650R is only available in that Lime Green color here.

He is also selling an 09 CBR 1000RR for 8.75, I think he is asking that much money for the GSR because of the DRI letter, I asked someone to inquire on that & he said that they have paid 5 lacs for that bike to DRI.

And I assert that you don't go for non-transferring of ownership. It will only open few more complications as you won't have insurance on your name. Any accident occurs and you wouldn't be able to present an FIR to Insurance company, as the bike wouldn't be on your name.

Yes I gathered that as well & i think bike this big & accident prone with even a minor extra throttle in the hands of a newbie for higher cc bike need to have full insurance coverage
