  • bajaj pulsar 180 or tvs apache rtr 180

    hello everyone
    Naveen this side
my height is 5.9 feet and weight is 70 kgs

Please help me to choose between bajaj pulsar 180 and tvs apache rtr 180 as I m totally confused...
I travel almost 35-50 kms daily by bike and long ride on month end frm delhi to my home town which is 110 kms (approx) from delhi + I wud love to go for rides ranging frm 500 to 1000 kms ocassionaly Kindly let me know which is better option regarding performance, reliablity, build quality, maintainence cost, mileage and comfort ie overall package.

Also let me know which is better in terms of reliablity and build quality (fit and finish, quality of parts and paint job) as these to points are my priority coz i don like to visit service station for small niggles because this will be my first bike outside hero honda brand(fit and finish, quality of parts and paint job)

I have also included karizma in my list because of its road presence, smoothness n refinement but all my friends say it is low on feature list as compared to bikes like rtr180 and p220 and it is quite heavy on pocket due its mileage and maintainence cost (like its spares r very expensive) but i guess it will b hassle free then other bikes as its hero honda and it will not require spares very often in front of rtr n pulsars...
please put some lite on its pros and cons also

The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

One of my friends own a pulsar 180. I've seen its power and speed. If u compare the initial acceleration Apache may have the edge (on the paper) but it looks smaller (not for your built).
IMO the Pulsar has more muscular looks and comfort. Better if u test ride both and see......

Both the bikes are good. I own a Pulsar 180 UG4 and am satisfied with its performance. The stability is good at higher speeds and everyother bit except torque does its bit. This machine has been doing its job for 4-5 years, so, refinement levels are at the top most for 180 UG4. Mileage is 45-50kmpl under normal riding.

I donot know about Apache alot, so would'nt comment on it. The best option is to test ride both the bikes and see which suits your physique, needs and DNA.

Racing Throttle Response . I guess you already went through the pulsar and apache 180 ownership threads. You will travel long distances for once per month...you are not going to tour every now and then like every weekends. Pulsar is comfortable for relaxed touring (RTR is also very good in touring(maybe not that relaxed as compared to pulsars) - you can check out the tourers thread). Pulsar 180 will be good for relaxed city riding as well as long journey but RTR 180 will give you the grunt..the adrenaline rush you will need to get rid of boredom of city riding as well as cutting through heavy traffic jam like a blade. Pulsar is also good but not that aggressive kind..it's like a bit polite. Pulsars always have some small niggles which do not bother owners that much. End of the day if you take good care of you bike then it won't let you down.. whether it is a pulsar or a R15. Yep..it's true that Pulsars always keep nudging like girl friends.
RTR 180 = Adrenaline Rush, Get Rid of Boredom, Enjoy the nature while touring.
Pulsar 180= Relaxed City riding and Enjoy the nature in your monthly long tour.
Test ride both. Feel the difference by yourself.

                  please clear following queries:-

1> can you give me a rough idea about its regular service cost, maintainence and cost of spares...???
2> also some people say that performance of pulsar goes down after 2-3 years..is this true???
3>are you facing any type of problems with self start in cold mornings or after a week time???

Apache also has some small niggles but it's very much lesser comparing to pulsars( pulsars niggles are not that much of which you can't live with). Apache has speedometer errors...which is also rare. TVS tires sucks big time on wet condition. The vibrations.. you will love it and it won't take much time to make you addicted to it.. which will make you feel the power.
Just Test drive it. If you mind vibrations...I don't know I will rarely want a bike to be vibration free unless when I'm going for a very relaxed ride like enjoying the nature comparing to watching dreams lying on a cloud and sometimes for scraping my knees on the heart throbbing twisty like on a r15.

2.If you take good care of her then pulsar will never let go of her performance. There are very old pulsar owners here in XBHP whom are also very hardcore rider and their bikes are still gunning down the tarmac. Have a look in the ownership threads and tourer section for the performances.
                    3. If your bike is well tuned (AFR is little richer in cold) and spark plugs, engine oil everything is in perfect condition then there should not be any issues to fire her up by a single self click.

                        1) 220 Rs for Servicing (paid) + oil (if SC they will charge some 200 Rs)

                        2) Nope! Not true. If you take care of your bike well, then it will give you satisfaction as long as 80-90K kms. Trust Me!

                        3) Nope! nothing. I cranked her, once after 13 days and she started in first crank. No problems. Self start is a boon.

                        Thanks

+1,u will love that vibration buddy.i cant think of an apache without vibration, vibration can be reduced little bit by using motul.
                          @TS
Go for rtr 180, u will enjoy it.

Both the bikes will give you quite similar Niggles....
U can not avoid visiting the showroom frequently in any case....
I am saying these,so that after the purchase(any 1 of them),you wont feel like -"hope i had got the other bike "...
                            Thats no big deal anyways.
                            My vote-
Either Pulsar 220S or Apache RTR 180.

sorry for including 220 S,as by just paying 5k more than P180,you will get so much power.

rtr 180 is better bike in terms of top speed, acc.,fit and finish and on a race track but when it comes to vibrations, which are more in rtr 180 than rtr 160 it is a painfull experience. one more thing which increase the vib. is that when you shift down gears , vibrations increases a lot and it results in overheating. As we know rtr 180 use the same gearbox as rtr160 and this gearbox was designed for handling the power of rtr 160 so engine of 180 is overstressed always .So it is better you buy 220s
