  • Tough Choice: Keep my 2004 P150 UG1 or replace it with something newer?

    Hi All,

I have a 2004-Dec P150 (same one in my avatar). It has covered a bit above 28K kms. I have installed a P180 Carb, K&N Filter, free-flow exhaust and the bigger Exhaustec chamber from the P200. I also have changed the rear tyre to 100/80 Zapper from the YZF-R15. As a result of all these mods, and possibly some engine damage due to overheating once (rode too long at high throttle with a K&N and a lean mixture, piston seized after I'd stopped for a break), I'm getting a rather pathetic average of about 30-35 kpl.

There is some smoke from the engine, as well as head oil leaks. The engine mounting bushes also seem to be shot since the vibes are getting shall we say, 'therapeutic'. Not to mention, the aluminium painted parts and some parts of the paintjob look worse for wear. The swing-arm bush has given up, so the bike is not stable on bends. Front shocks are gone too. The ASC chief mech recommended a new cylinder kit, and maybe an overcoat of the paint. Of course, he also recommends getting rid of all the mods and reverting to stock.

It's been a wonderful 6 years and 9 months that this bike has been with me, and every ride on it has been great. It hasn't been dropped once while riding (it fell down once because i lost my footing in some mud, at standstill), so the chassis is still true.

On the other hand, it has been 6 years and 9 months, and I'm a bit bored with it. I'm confused because I don't know if I should replace it, and also, what should I replace it with. My budget doesn't allow anything over 80K, so anything that costs more is out.

I'd also welcome opinions on modding my bike, I'm also considering replacing the cylinder kit with the 180's or 200's. No visual mods/changes planned, anything replaced will be functional only. Suggestions please, guys?
This sig made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs. And if you don't know what that means, you're not old enough to. :D

I think reverting to stock is a great option, if you are looking to keep the bike.
To change it to a 200 might require extensive modifications to the Engine, Gearbox, Chain, etc. etc.
You might probably want to wait, since it is almost time the new Pulsars would arrive.

welcome back ... i thought you ve left india :P ...
you ve always loved your bike n maintained it well, but unfortunately i think it was given to the wrong hands for your mod jobs, which i later found out after you introduced me to him.. no offense.. she has run very less , even my 3 year old bike has more on the Odo ! As you already have 200 exhaust now, i think you just replace the cylinder kit with that of 200 , swing arm bush job is cheap and easy one, paint it with the new orange shade of 220, tune it properly and you should get a mileage of around 40 back , with a damage of just around 6-7k!

Or if you have made up your mind to change it, go for something very worthwhile like a bullet500 or so!! you can get second machismo n all for around 80k

I would suggest don't spend much on an old bike, unless it is a classic like RS100 or Yezdi. Better to sell and buy a new one.
